Let the debate begin (again) on who else deserves to have their jersey number retired.

Very deserving...he was a man among boys when he was in Saginaw and it showed when he went directly from the OHL playoffs to playing on a line in Chicago with Hossa and Toews.
Shalla has some great statistics but if you are going on sheer ability it's Perfetti followed by Mintuykov. I would lean toward Perfetti because, after Saad, he was the first legit "out of the blue" player to report to Saginaw and if it wasn't for the covid cancellation might have rewritten the record books in Saginaw. He averaged 1.82 pts per game in 2019/20 and is a career 1.5 pts per game with Saginaw...that's just incredible.

Let the debate begin (again) on who else deserves to have their jersey number retired. Think it will be a few years before we see another one. Trocheck and Saad were the easy choices from that era. Then there was like 6 years of meh hockey. I want Shalla up there too but you almost have to have some NHL success if you want to get your number retired. Perfetti would likely be the next one. Maybe they do his for the 25th anniversary? Also could do Rosie's number from the gear days if he retires after this season.

You bring up a great point about Rosie but I just don't think his jersey can be retired since he never played for the Spirit. What we need is a "ring of honor" or something that is slightly less than having your number retired. Rosie would easily qualify because of coaching, broadcasting and being a Saginaw legend. You'd be able to induct people like Shalla, McDonough, Brodie, Pyatt or even people like Eric Locke who put up a boatload of points. I know they've had a hockey display at the castle museum but I'd love to see some sort of hockey museum at the Dow.

The next one will definitely be Perfetti. The Spirit brass always go see him play whenever Winnipeg visits Detroit. Doing it during the 25th anniversary season seems like a really good idea, honestly.
When I think of "Ring of Honor" I think of the banners we have hanging up in the atrium at The Dow. I can't remember if Shalla is up there or not (I think he is?), but I know guys like Eric Locke and Brad Walsh are. I don't ever see Shalla's number getting retired simply because he never made it to the NHL.

Thanks to Guy Payne, both my wife and I will be able to wear SAAD jerseys for this event. Saad's Chicago Blackhawks Jersey was one to the first NHL Jerseys in my jersey collection. We also have a Columbus Blue Jackets SAAD jersey from Disco Stu's collection. Should be a fun night. The Black Hawks jersey is already signed, but not the Blue Jackets one. We need to fix that.
