Spirit get a little time off after back to back OT victories but this week is a brutal 3in3. Owen Sound and Erie are both solid, physical teams and while we should have a good chance to win both, we have a 2p game on Sunday IN THE SOO which if I was a player just sounds miserable. I'm guessing the team will travel after the game on Saturday night which means they'll arrive in the Soo at like 2 or 3am and then have to somehow get ready for a 2p game. Man, who ticked off the schedule maker to get that game???
At some point they're going to have to figure out how to play playoff hockey and take care of a lead. That Barrie game was so frustrating on Saturday night...so many odd-man chances...we say it after every game "it's the system" but man, at some point we have to have another system that we can win a 3-2 game in the playoffs. I think our goaltending has been VERY good...both guys seem to be on their game and that's a great thing for these 3in3's. I'd guess that Oke plays either both home games and Lalonde goes in the Soo on full rest or Lalonde plays on Saturday night. I didn't think Lalonde looked as sharp yesterday as he did on Saturday night but he still looked very good. I'm really happy with that trade as Drinkell got him for a bag of beans and he's a top 10 goalie right now.

A good start to the weekend as the Greyhounds blew a 3rd period lead and lost in regulation last night in Sudbury. A chance to gain two points on them tomorrow.
Yep, back on New Year's Eve the Spirit had to play in the Soo on a Sunday afternoon after playing a home game the night before. I recall seeing on their social media pages they headed north immediately after the game. The same thing will happen again on the final game of the regular season (really hoping the division title won't be on the line for that...)

Makes that blown game against Sault Ste Marie even more maddening. Oh well, gotta move on.

It would not be so bad if the Soo had away games the night before the Sunday games. But they have a HOME game this Saturday and the FRIDAY before the final game. So, if the division does come down to the final game, we will be arriving after playing a Saturday night game against Windsor while the Soo would have had all day Saturday to rest up.

Tonight vs Owen Sound is billet appreciation night. Tomorrow night vs Erie is mental health awareness night. Spirit can not take either of these teams lightly. Owen Sound is coming off a 6-2 win at home against Sarnia on Wednesday night. Erie blew a 4-2 lead and lost 5-4 at Windsor last night. Erie is at Sarnia tonight. Erie did beat London last week 6-5 in OT.

Probably the most entertaining game of the season tonight, and another OT victory. Owen Sound is definitely not a team I want to play in the first round of the playoffs. Their goalie is very capable of stealing games like he almost did tonight.
A lot of people will notice the powerplay discrepancy in the game, but I thought pretty much all of Owen Sound's penalties were warranted.
Erie in town on Saturday and they'll be playing their 3rd game in 3 days, with road losses against Windsor and Sarnia. The Soo are hosting Niagara, so I doubt we'll get any help there. Another important two points to get.

I noticed that Ben Gaudreau has not played in goal for Erie the past 2 games. I wonder if he is injured? Haven’t read anything about it.

Kitchener continues to stumble. They lose in Ottawa 3-2 this afternoon. Only good news for them this weekend is Rehkopf breaks his 9 game goalless drought with 2 goals last night at Kingston and 1 goal today. He now has 40 goals this season.

14 straight wins for Lalonde. Didn’t get to catch the game but did they mention what the record for consecutive goalie victories in Spirit history is? He has to have it already no?

Looks like the schedule makers knew what they were doing. Sundays in the Soo have been good to us so far. 6 up with 17 games left.

A perfect six points in three games this weekend and it's paying off in the standings as the Spirit finally passed the Greyhounds this week, and also put a little space between them for now, leading by 6 points. They've also played the same number of games now.
