Our annual road trip to Northern Ontario starts tonight. Hopefully they come out and smoke Barrie tonight...they're obviously the weakest of the 3 teams but we struggle with them at home a few weeks ago. After that it's a Friday/Sunday matchup against two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. We'll get to see our buddy Giroux in a Sudbury uniform and I'm sure he'll be as much of a pest for them as he was for Flint. Would love to see the Spirit make a statement on the road this weekend!
In out-of-town scores, Soo plays London Friday night so that will be one to keep an eye on.

Soo beat Sudbury in a shootout at home last night. In a battle for the 8th playoff spot in the Western Conference, Flint beat Sarnia in a shootout at home last night.

Soo beat Sudbury in a shootout at home last night. In a battle for the 8th playoff spot in the Western Conference, Flint beat Sarnia in a shootout at home last night. The fact it was a SO win is important. The first tie breaker for standings is ROW (regulation and OT wins). Head to head is second. We are currently at 37. Soo is at 31. They'll likely have a hard time getting more ROW by the end of the year so they'll have to pass us outright.

Scratches tonight in Barrie are Mangone, Storch, Glavin, and Forgione. LaLonde gets the start between the pipes.

Tough to not have Mangone on the trip. I do believe that Forgione has been skating.
7-6 win tonight in Barrie. A couple of late goals made the game seem closer than it really was, but IMO LaLonde let in a few goals I'm sure he'd love to have back. 5 points tonight for Dionico, including a highlight reel goal in the 1st period.
It seems like we always struggle in Barrie no matter what the records are, so it's nice to get out of there with two points, even if it wasn't pretty looking. Important to keep pace with the Soo after their win last night. I'd probably be happy with getting at least a split from Sudbury/North Bay. Going to be two tough games.

but IMO LaLonde let in a few goals I'm sure he'd love to have back. Felt the same way...there were some streches where he made some really good saves but other than that, I didn't think he looked as sharp as he's been playing. There was a goal at the end that looked like it went just over his glove and should have been an easy save and it just kind of went in. Others he was screened on or they were really quick release fast shots but definitely a couple he'd like back.

6-3 loss for Saginaw in Sudbury and the Soo blew out London 8-2. So now a 4-point lead in the division with 15 games left. Giving up 12 goals in 2 games is...not ideal. Especially after that excellent defensive effort in the Soo last Sunday. Hopefully a day off today will help us regroup for tomorrow.

Spirit hold off a North Bay comeback for the 5-3 win. Another 4/6 or better weekend. Soo currently losing 5-0 to the Spits of all teams. Junior hockey can be very weird sometimes.

Wild 3rd period in Windsor. The Spits hang on to win 6-4. Maybe Sarnia can help Saginaw out tomorrow.

All in all a good result for the weekend with the Hounds somehow losing to Windsor. Back up to a 6 point lead in the division with 14 games left. Flint in town on Wednesday, and they're on a 5-game winning streak. And they're a pretty good road team, too. Will be another tough weekend of games, but it's good to have the long distance road trips done for the season.

I'm less concerned about the Soo catching up than I am at us trying to pass London. For some reason I thought we had one more game left against them but that appears not to be.
London does have left: Windsor x3 Kingston Ottawa Oshawa Kitchener x2 Flint Guelph x2 Sarnia Erie SSM
So I'd say there schedule is slightly harder than what Saginaw has left, but not by much. I'd love to have that #1 seed for the banners and the home playoff games, but we all know that if we want to win the title, it's going to have to go through London at some point.
Looking forward to how the season ends!

Looking forward to how the season ends! It may not go through London if we can catch them for the #1 seed which I think is REALLY important. If we end up #1 that means Soo will face London in the conference semis and Soo is 3-0 against London this year including a recent beatdown at the Budweiser Gardens. Both of those teams are going to be very tough outs in the playoffs and I'd love to see them beat each other up while we face someone like Kitchener who is also very tough but I think is a step down from Lon/Soo/Sag. Regardless, it's going to be tough to make the finals but we definitely have a team to do it.
