The Sound Attack are the first victims this year...personally I wanted a Flint series as I think they would have been a better matchup for us.
Owen Sound has one of the top draft-eligible goalies in Carter George who had a very nice 3.30 GAA during the season (56 games) but over his last 5 games he's given up 5.2 per game. I wonder if maybe he's running out of gas...56 games is a lot for a 2nd year player.
Owen Sound also has some big names like Deni Goure (96pts), Colby Barlow (40 goals in 50 games), OA Ethan Burroughs and Servac Petrovsky (1pt per game). Where OS is lacking is in depth...we will be able to roll 4 lines and we'll have a significant advantage when their 3rd or 4th lines are out there.
My prediction for the series will be a similar script to what we've seen over the last month or so...our ability to wear teams down with possession will ultimately be the deciding factor and Carter George will be the one with all the pressure. He's good enough to win a game or two but there will be games where he gets pulled...we just have too much firepower. I think that it's possible that they win both of games 3/4 so my prediction for the series will be 4 games to 2.

Not sure who I would have rather faced. I liked Flint purely for travel reasons but that was a series that I could see Flint gooning it up if Saginaw was up like 3 games to none or something. Owen Sound I feel is kind of a one-line team with a goalie is capable of stealing a game or two. I'll take Saginaw in 5.

Owen Sound should have been a better team than they were this season. They never got their crap together. The coaching isn't working. They just aren't operating well overall. I agree George can steal a game but a series is going to wear on them quick. This is a much better series to get round one than Flint. Firebirds would have started to goon it up from game 1. No thank you. This should be a pretty painless 5 games.

The real season starts tonight! Every team is 0-0. Have to get to Carter George early.

Agreed MSF!!!
This is the best team we've ever had and it may take another 20 years to assemble a team with this much young/old talent again so make the most of it!!! Hopefully the community is supportive and turns out for these playoff games!!!

I'm going to be in town to see family for Easter and plan on coming up from Kalamazoo. I'm really excited to see the adjustments Bloom has made since I watched him skate for the K-Wings earlier in the season. He seemed a little and intimidated at that level, but I know the potential is there. If you see me in my K-Wings jersey, come say hi.

The boys were flying tonight in Game 2 and Andrew Oke held his ground which all led to a 5-2 win and 2-0 series lead.

Bloom has taken his game up a notch the first two games. His line with Beck and Christopolous has had really nice chemistry since they started playing together. Time to get one (hopefully two) on the road.

Even before the series started, George was my pick for goalie of the year. Valiant effort from him tonight but didn’t get enough goal support. 3-0 going into game 4.

I attended the game in Owen Sound tonight and really I thought it was an excellent road game from Saginaw. When OS tied it at 1, I started to wonder if this was the game George would steal by himself, but we came back with a good offensive shift afterwards and got reward with a goal in the final seconds of the period. We seemed to have a lot more juice than OS did in the third period. Nice to see our fourth line out there in the late stages of regulation and taking it to their top line. Oke was very sharp and has really stepped up the past couple of games. I'm also pretty sure Josh Bloom is on a mission to score every time we're shorthanded. Hope to finish it up Wednesday and get some rest.

I was tempted to go to the regular season game in Owen Sound last month, but changed plans.
In the process, I looked up where we once met and had dinner before a game and that was Shorty's Grill. In the last year, it has permanently closed, despite the good reviews up until nine months ago.
That's a shame.

Big game tonight...with the Soo up 3-0 it's important to finish the job and get some rest ahead of that series. Owen Sound isn't going to lay down but they have to be frustrated after playing a great game in Game 3 at home and still losing. They got an A+ effort from their goalie and it still wasn't enough. Hopefully we continue to pepper the shots and if we can get up early, I think they'll mail it in. Hopefully get another good effort from Oke tonight, he was really solid in Game 3. Team looks like they really want to win and they need to stay focused.

That was a pretty dominating game by the Spirit. Maybe one of the best games of the season.
Tough year for Owen Sound. They were rated pretty highly at the start of the season but just never got it going. Even bought at the deadline and traded away their '07 first rounder, too.
Looks like Round 2 starts next Thursday. Going to be a long layoff for both us and the Soo, unless Flint pulls off some miraculous comeback.
