Saginaw will lose 5 of this yearโs 19 year olds with 3 remaining as OAs next season. 8 - 3 = 5 ๐๐

This fan base will go batshit crazy if Parekh gets traded this year. But I agree with your assessment.

One thing to remember with a potential Parekh trade this season is that you are limited in way to what you can get back. You're only going to get 1 08 born player. Yes you could get an 07 too along with picks but if you wait to move him in the next off season, you can get multiple 08's and a ton of picks too. On the one hand you get a few more picks but the other offer yields better players.

Ya, there will be a sweet spot and DD will have to weigh that out with what the team is going to look like.
After so many years of the wrong people in leadership positions it feels awkwardly comfortable to just trust DD with all of these moves... He just seems to get the flow of the league and where we stand relative to the competitive balance. Must be nice for Garber and Goslin to not have to worry about any of that like they used to.

Chromiak was traded to Kitchener yesterday, which probably makes it very unlikely he will be filling in the open Import spot.

Agreed... It will likely be a 1-import season but at the deadline if someone is looking to shed an import as a part of a deal, we could step in and perhaps get someone at a discount if it helps make another deal work.

Do we have any high-level draftees out there playing USHL that could report to Saginaw now that they should be eligible for NCAA? I would think the opportunity to play with Misa and Zayne in Laz's system might entice a player or two. Kingpin usually keeps pretty good tabs on this stuff but maybe others know as well.

Yeah it's basically Trethewey and he's not leaving the NTDP this year. I mentioned Candon O'Neil earlier. No idea if his success in the OJHL translates to the OHL. Connor Bewick is currently in the USHL. PSU commit. Not killing it but might be worth a look? www.eliteprospects.com/player/784713/connor-bewick

Thanks for the info...I know in the past we've taken some flyers on American kids but many of those have already joined the team...Willis, Oke, Epperson, even DiBlasi. We've done a much better job of recruiting these guys than we used to and the CHL/NCAA thing will probably come into play more with future drafts and not necessarily our past ones.

With the NCAA wall coming down soon, I wonder what the value of Charlie Trethewey's rights would be in a trade? If you move him with the understanding that he signs for the 2025/26 season, that would have to be worth its weight in gold. He's not scheduled for BU until 2026/27. Has to go somewhere for next season.

Is it just me or does it seem like Parekh doesn't want to be here this year? I can remember this a long time ago with Bissonette...he went away to Penguins camp, stuck with them for a bit and then came back and just played like "I can't believe I'm back here with these scrubs." Without Hache, Donovan and Dionocio, it's a big drop-off in talent on the blue line so that probably has a lot to do with it but he just doesn't seem to be playing with the same fire as last year but that was also his draft year and a Memorial Cup season. We need him to be playing at a high level to make up for some of the deficiencies on defense and I just haven't seen it yet through the first two months of the season. I've been on the record that I think we should trade him to get a boatload of picks and I think I still feel that way as the season has moved along.

The mass exodus of players from the USHL/BCHL is on. Seems like every couple of hours another player is defecting to the CHL. This could be happening even faster if not for the fact that the USHL is essentially running an extortion racquet now. They are asking for transfer fees in the neighborhood of 10-25k per players. Chicago is asking for 100K for Adam Valentini to be released to Kitchener. These "negotiations" go away in the offseason where its a flat fee. Expect the summer to be the real wave of talent shifting. But as for this year's deadline, this influx of players could reduce the demand for players/drop the prices. Some teams might just sign a couple high end NCAA kids instead of handing over 5/6 draft picks. Suddenly teams that are low on assets can be just as competitive as those with a surplus of picks. Its going to get weird and the difference between mid tier teams and contenders is going to be less than normal. Maybe Saginaw can land some players cheaper than originally thought? Maybe the market for someone like Zayne isn't as strong any more? These next couple months are going to be fascinating to look back on in 5 years.
