With the NHL draft concluded, the next offseason event on the calender is the Import draft. Saginaw will have both spots open and should make 2 selections. Draft will occur on July 3rd. Saginaw has picks 56 and 116. What number they pick at isn't super important. As we all know, this draft is more about agents/GM's and the relationships they build.
My guess is we see one 07 and one 06 picked. Rumored that Calgary first rounder Matvei Gridin wants to come to the CHL (currently a Michigan recruit). Could go full tinfoil and suggest that Calgary will push for him to go play with Parekh but doubt we get that lucky. Will be interesting to see who we pick though.

Ya, the OHL draft has changed a bit with the non-reporting rules and your ability to not only trade those rights but get an additional 1st rounder the following year. That has deterred the Londons a bit from letting these "NCAA" picks drop all the way to them and then suddenly reporting.
The Import draft like you said still has a lot of those "my player is only going to play for X" because the player will stay in Europe or Russia if they don't get the situation they want. I don't remember reading anything but last year it had to have been set up with Zhugin to fall to us. He was way too good of a player to last until the 40th pick but it was probably set up to have him play for us. Of course we end up trading him so who knows if that will hurt any relationships but that's the kind of stuff that happens in the import draft.
I'll wear the tinfoil hat and hope for Kingpin's scenario but I seriously doubt that will happen.

Well, Grindin went #1 overall so I'm thinking that UofM can take him off the recruit list

In the first round of the import draft, Saginaw selected 2005-born left winger Igor Chernyshov from Penza, Russia. Stats are below. Saw some time in the KHL last year. He was a 2nd round pick (33rd overall) of the San Jose Sharks in the 2024 NHL Draft. chl.ca/prospects/chl/2024/1627072757/

Rumored to be signing with the Sharks in order to free him up from Russia. Also a gold star guy. Like our chances of getting him.

Windsor was reportedly planning on taking him at #3, but Val-d'Or took him at #1 and will apparently trade him to Rimouski as they load up for the Memorial Cup.

With the second round pick, Saginaw takes 2006-born left winger Lucas Pettersson from Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. He's a second round pick of the Anaheim Ducks (35th overall) in the most recent NHL Draft. chl.ca/prospects/chl/2024/-101733410/

Think this one is more of a long shot. One that we wait until after WJC before we know if he’s showing up or not. But I can respect the idea. It’s clear that we want to try for the OHL title one last time with this group.

Markus Niemelainen was the name that came to mind for me but he was from Finland so it's not our first Scandinavian player but it is our first Swedish player that we've drafted. Seems like they have a robust system there and players don't often come to the US but we're 2/3 of the way to Anaheim

Ducks could want Pettersson to get some time under Laz like them.
