Great to see Sima's hard work last season paid off into a free agent invite. A little surprised Mangone didn't get an invite anywhere.

The western Canadian NHL teams are having their Young Stars Classic prospect tourney this weekend. You can catch Parekh in action. Flames are playing tonight at 7pm est. I believe the game will be broadcast by the flames on their site?

As much as teams are coming around to smaller players, size will still be an issue. If you're someone who's 5' 9", you really have to put up points to get teams' attention. Alot of these FA invites, like a Sima, are battling for 4th line duties in the future. So bigger players are always going to be favored for that role instead of small, skill players. I think Mangone can use this as motivation. Have a big year and earn a pro contract. Can carve himself out a decent AHL career. I very much see Mangone like Taro Hirose for the Wings/Griffins. Great NCAA player. Great AHL guy.

Prospects games/tournaments were held late last week and over last weekend. NHL training camps will begin this week.

Teams are releasing their training camp roster. As expected, our three drafted players will be away at camp still (Willis, Hay, Parekh). Sima and Oke will be back. Don't know if we see them this week. Probably will be held out until opening night. Would expect Willis and Hay back before their NHL teams have pre season games. Parekh might be the only one that gets any kind of long look.

Hopefully he's back because it would really be nice to see him in some game action...I have no idea if he's even a capable backup. If Oke gets another head injury this year he could just decide to hang it up so we need to have a little bit of depth because DiBlasi isn't ready for the big show yet.

I try not to take too much from preseason games, but I do like that Misa/Epperson continue to have great chemistry. Mentioned that one of the new faces would have to step into that top 6 role for us to be successful this year. It's encouraging so far. Could be great for both guys.

Lalonde was returned to the OHL so it's likely the conditional picks will become actual picks which is good.
Other news from the transaction log: Blade Jenkins was released by the Rangers

Might not be getting Hay back for opening night. He's playing tonight for Tampa. Don't know if they'd release him in time to get him back for tomorrow night. More likely back for at least one of the weekend games.

Zayne Parekh played in Calgary’s preseason game against Seattle on Sunday. He was not in either lineup for Calgary’s split squad preseason games against Edmonton Monday night. Calgary’s next preseason game is Wednesday night.
