Alright, I know it's a day early, but I'm still psyched about the new season. Best of all, I got out of the wedding I was supposed to be going to and now I'm taking the girlfriend to see the Spirit.
So the Sting start their season off tonight in London, which COULD be a bit of an indication as to how we will match up to them tomorrow night, being that we were able to win against London (of course with pre-season rosters) in the preseason.
So how will we stack up against the Sting? Any thoughts? We have a couple days of rest while the Sting play in back to back nights, will that help either team out? Does that really matter this early?
I'm looking forward to the game. Should be a good one. I think with Daniels in net and the first game jitters gone, we might be a much more competitive team out of the gate tomorrow night.

Be interesting to see what, if any, lineup changes for tomorrow night. Will we maybe see Comrie w/ his first start at D? Also looking forward to seeing the "new and improved" Ryan Daniels--certainly doing well at Ottawa's rookie camp must have been a boost for him. On the down side, of course, someone is going to have to contain Steven Stamkos. Nigel Williams, come on down. One point of interest is that the Sting are apparently going to go with young goalies. Parker Van Buskirk looks to be on his way out, in what is definitely a surprise from my viewpoint. My guess is that the Spirit wait another week to pick up the first W. Sarnia has a little too much experience this week, and I believe playing London tonight will be a help to them in getting rid of opening night bugs.
PS--eric, I too have a wedding, but it is of the "cannot miss" variety. So I'm counting on a full reporting from my fellow forum-ites tomorrow night!

Sting beat London 3-2 tonight, but watch out, Windsor beat Erie 10-3 with a whopping 71 shots on goal (that is up for verification as the game summary said 10 shots to 3) Plus the soo won again in Guelph 4-1. Looks like we're at the bottom of the division.

I still say we'll be more on our game tonight. More confidence with Daniels in goal, and those jitters are gone, the kids have a game under their belt, one which they played really well in the third period, which should help bring SOME momentum with them tonight. I think that first goal will be very important tonight. I'm not willing to mail it in yet, I know the deck is stacked against us, but I think we've got a shot. Bring on the Bumblebees!
Speaking of which, what'd you guys think of the cartoon they played at the beginning of the game opening night? lol. It could have been a little more dramatic, but it was cool. Will I have the same reaction after seeing it for the 30th time this season? Probably not.

I'm not sure if we'll win tonight, but we'll have a much better team on the ice tonight with Daniels and Sinfield in the lineup. Hopefully Sarnia will be a little tired tonight.
Go Spirit!

Well, the "new and improved" Ryan Daniels hasn't exactly played up to par tonight, giving up 2 goals in the first 10 minutes. Currently 2-1 Sarnia midway through the 1st.
Garrett Sinfield is also in the lineup tonight and our new player, Brad Smith, has an assist. Interesting note is that he is wearing #28, so perhaps that rumor about Berard was true...

Spirit win tonight 5-4...2 goals in the last 2 minutes! Great job guys...we're already off to a better start than last year, lol. Newcomer Brad Smith had 2 assists. Attendance tonight was 3297.

Wow! Sounds like I missed a good one. I made the mistake of going to the Tiger game instead.

The last time I missed a game for a wedding we lost to London in OT. Tonight, I come home from a wedding to find a message from my nephew (and he STILL sounded excited) telling me what had happened and what a great game it was and THANKS SO MUCH for the tickets. Everyone take note--I have a wedding to attend the Saturday after Thanksgiving. So it's gonna be a great game. Nice job, Spirit. That's a real good win.

According to the OHL on line scoresheet, Jack Combs got into a fight. How did he handle himself??

According to the OHL on line scoresheet, Jack Combs got into a fight. How did he handle himself?? It appeared to me that Jack didn’t really want to go but refused to back down from Oliphant. There was a lot of pushing and shoving between the two before they dropped the gloves. Jack actually didn’t get one of his gloves off as they latched on to each other trying to get position. Neither got a very good grip on each others jersey. Jack shrugged off his second glove, knocked off Oliphant’s helmet and landed a few glancing blows, with a couple going to the back of Oliphant’s head. Oliphant never got Jack’s helmet off. He threw a few shots, none of which seemed to hit home or do much to Jack. They clenched and the ref’s moved in to break it up.

Yeah, the Combs fight was not that exciting. REALLY great game last night though, I was very impressed. We have a team that NEVER gives up.
Maybe I'm being too nice to Daniels because I'm happy to have him back, but I think he played well, several of the goals were good ones, not really his fault. After we took the lead, it was like our guys were still celebrating after the puck drop, it went right out to an open wing and Sarnia scored immediately.
The crowd was pretty loud last night for being as small as it was. I was surprised there weren't more people, but as the season picks up, I'm sure so will attendance.
I said last week, and I'll say it again. I am really looking forward to watching this team this season. They are going to be good.

Well the Spirit never quit ... the game was rather exciting.
I think the spirit will be better then they have Chappell back, hes a really good player and he was great at the blue white game. Does anybody know where he is?
Eric as for Daniels .. Let him find his legs, he just got back. He will have a big year

Good debut for new guy Smith last night. Had 2 points and was a +3 in his first OHL game - he only scored 2 points in 24 QMJHL games!
Smith had 16 goals and 24 assists in 42 games with Summerside Jr.A. last year - the same league Jamie Klie played in.
