The Lansing Lugnuts made it 3 straight wins over the Loons with a 3-1 win today in Lansing. The loss drops the Loons below 0.500 with a record of 4-5. Hopefully they can get back to 0.500 by salvaging a win tomorrow in the finale of the 4 game set with the Lugnuts.

Make it 4 straight losses for the Loons against Lansing. The Lugnuts beat Great Lakes 5-4 tonight. The Loons are now 4-6 and start an 8 game homestand tomorrow night at Dow Diamond.

I cover the Lansing Lugnuts during the season, so I had a chance to see the Loons in three of the last four games. They hit the ball a lot better tonight than they had in the previous three. They damn near pulled it out in the ninth inning and came very close to getting their first home run in franchise history. A line shot off the top of the right field wall at Olds Park. Any other park in this league, it would have been gone and they would have won, but Old's Park has a 35' wall in right field.
My impressions of this team are that they are very young and have very poor pitch recognition. They are way out in front of change ups and have trouble picking up the break on curve balls. I talked with the Lansing manager about it tonight an he said that typically with a young team like that, they sit on first pitch fastballs and so you can generally fool them with stuff like that. He said that this is this first time that kids are seeing curve balls that break this much as they are more used to seeing curve balls in high school and college. They will be alright and I'm sure Lance will work with them on that.
Good luck Loons. An exciting homestand tomorrow as the Peoria Chiefs and their hall of fame manager Ryne Sandberg come to Midland for their only visit of the year.
