The losing streak is now at 8 games as the Loons drop game 4 of the series to the Peoria Chiefs 3-0. The Loons scored a total of 4 runs in 4 games against Peoria. They are still looking for their inaugural win at Dow Diamond as they have now gone 0-6 on home turf. Sadly this is reminding me of how the Spirit started out after moving to Saginaw from North Bay. YUK!!!!!

I'm looking at my handy dandy media notes from Lansing tonight and am looking at the statistics for the Loons. They have a four game series staring in Midland tomorrow with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. This could be just what this team needs as Cedar Rapids is 13th out of 14 teams in offense as they are hitting .215 as a team and have scored 44 runs on the season entering action on Friday night. The Loons aren't hitting much better as they have attained a team batting average of .220 and have only managed to score 35 runs.
Team pitching is about even for these two. Both rank in the middle of the pack with the Loons having a team ERA of 3.00 and the Kernels a team ERA of 3.18. The Lansing Lugnuts lead the MWL with a team ERA of 1.91 entering Friday's action.
The interesting thing here is that the Loons pitching staff leads the MWL in strike outs having fanned 104.
Keep your heads up. This is a good team, but they are very young and are learning. I have absolutely no idea why they are so unproductive in Midland. They looked alright to me in Lansing earlier in the week. A bloop here and there and they could have easily taken three of four in that series. I think they are pressing really hard to try and get the first home win.
One thing is for sure, if they want to have home field in the playoffs, they are going to have to get it going. Lansing and Dayton are both currently 10-1 on the season and the two playoff qualifiers in the first half get the home field in the playoffs. The playoff series in the first two rounds is only a best of three, so the Loons would only have one guaranteed game in the playoffs.

One other thing to hopefully lift the uh-um, "spirit" of the Loons fans. The team that Lansing swept tonight (Kane County Cougars) are now 1-11 on the season. South Bend has only won two games and are 2-10. It could be far worse than 4-9. I think that the Loons play the Cougars on their upcoming road trip next weekend.
The Beloit Snappers are hitting .188 as a team right now. I get the distinguished honor to watch that crap for the next four nights.
