Our beloved reporter for the S'news earlier today wrote a little story about the Memorial Cup Tournament. www.mlive.com/spirit/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1210861239277720.xml&coll=9What caught my eye was his comment mid-way through the column where he states that: "Belleville's invitation is purely based on money". "A round-robin tournament needs only three teams, at the minimum. But the CHL in an effort to set up more games -- resulting in more money -- settled on a format that includes four teams, resulting in the Rangers and Bulls getting the chance to win the Memorial Cup." What is this guy smoking? The Memorial Cup has been a four-team event for twenty five years!!!! It has always had a host team that is determined over a year in advance since the 1983 event in Portland, Oregon! He seems to think that Belleville was just granted a spot just to have a fourth team for more games and more money. Kitchener was determined as the Host over a year ago and just so happened to win the OHL title as well. When that happens, the runner up in the league of the host, gains the automatic berth in the tournament. Am I missing his point here, or does he really believe that Belleville was allowed into the tournament this year strictly for financial reason? Where does this guy do his research? For the love of God, we deserve better here!

I was more stunned by the retraction at the end of the article. As many factual errors as I've read in Constantine's articles going back to the Saginaw Wheels days, I was amazed that one small name error granted a retraction.

Constantine's work has almost qualified him to take over Scott Burnside's job w/ ESPN.com, covering the Stanley Cup playoffs. For any of you that read Burnside, you should know that this is not a compliment. Anybody from Belleville that reads this is not going to be happy...............

With the weather warming, and those adult beverages on ice, what better time to introduce a new game: A Drink to Constantine"!!!
The rules are simple. Every time Constantine screws up in print, it's time to enjoy the cooling treat of your favorite drink--as many swallows as you want to put in the rules!
I'll get you started: What is the error in this part of Constantine's column on 6/19??
Former London Knights standout Patrick Kane was the top selection in the NHL's 2007 draft by Chicago, and the 18-year-old Buffalo native recently was named the league's Rookie of the Year.
The Sarnia Sting's Steven Stamkos is expected to go No. 1 overall in Ottawa.
If Stamkos is the choice of the Tampa Bay Lightning, it will mark the second time in the last seven years a player from the OHL was the top selection. Ottawa's Rick Nash, playing for the London Knights at the time, was first in 2002.
HINT: can you count??
Just a little something to pass the time til rookie camp...................
