Letter To The Saginaw News

I saw this letter to the editor of The Saginaw News and I found it to be baffling and quite strange!

Stop hockey fights

Editor, The News:

Recently a letter was submitted telling the people of the Tri-Cities how disgraceful they were for not attending the Saginaw Spirit hockey games.

My son and husband attended a Spirit game last year. They were excited to see a hockey game here in our home town of Saginaw. The campaign of the Spirit team is "come see our hockey games, great for the family." Well, we weren't impressed when during commercial breaks, two players stayed on the ice and fought.

I can understand there is fighting during the game, but to prompt fighting during a commercial, what are you telling our young people? It is OK to fight?

We don't attend the Spirit hockey games anymore because of this. Maybe this is also why many others have stopped attending the games.

Two things I found most interesting about the letter. One, it is sent to the news two months after the season ends. Two, I didn't realize that hockey games took commercial breaks. I personally get frustrated reading letters like this as reasons not to attend Spirit games.

This is actually the second letter of this type in the last week or so. They obviously don't understand the game. You can't please everyone. Was she upset that they fought during the "commercial break", or that they fought at all?

Anyone else think these are the same people standing by the side of the road holding up signs that say "Honk for Peace"?

I know I'm old but...I went to every home game and don't remember two guys fighting during a "commercial". Hmmm

Maybe they were talking about the boxing or wrestling that goes on between periods, when they bring out the mat and they put on the big suits or the gloves and go at it at center ice.
