Clayton Kershaw has been promoted to the Los Angeles Dodgers and will start on Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals. He becomes the first Great Lakes Loon alum to make it to the show.

Kerhsaw will be doing battle against the Tigers on Sunday! He pitched 4 scoreless innings before a rain delay. He was replaced when the game resumed and the Tigers went on to win 5-4. Kershaw got a no decision so he is still looking for his 1st W in the bigs. M-Live.com Article: www.mlive.com/tigers/index.ssf/2008/06/detroit_tigers_5_los_angeles_d_1.htmlExcerpt from M-Live.com Article: Dodgers manager Joe Torre opted to take out rookie starter Clayton Kershaw following the rain delay. The big left-hander had shut out the Tigers on two hits.

Karsch and Anderson on 97.1 FM "The Ticket" were just commenting about the nasty stuff Kershaw was throwing and they could not understand why Torre yanked him after the rain delay.

Update on July 3/4...
Kershaw was sent back down to Double-A Jacksonville, as the Dodgers have some injured pitchers returning from the DL and they needed to make room. Kershaw's record was 0-2 with a 4.43 ERA (I think) and had 33 strikeouts in about 38 innings or so of work. He was in line for his first major league win on Tuesday but the bullpen blew it.

Kershaw was called back up to the Dodgers on July 22nd and got his 1st major league win on Sunday July 27th, a 2-0 win over the Washington Nationals. ourmidland.com/articles/2008/07/28/sports/1197649.txtExcerpt from last 2 paragraphs: The progress of Loon alum Clayton Kershaw has been a real joy for Watson. Kershaw was promoted to the Dodgers earlier this year, than sent back down to Class AA Jacksonville, before being called back up July 22. Sunday, Kershaw picked up his first Major League win in a 2-0 victory over the Washington Nationals."We're proud about where he is," Watson said. "For a 20-year-old kid, he's very mature and has shown a tremendous amount of poise. When he got demoted to Jacksonville, he didn't pout, but just worked on his pitching."
