In case anyone hadn't heard, the Memorial Cup broke during Spokane's celebration. The link to the video is currently on the Yahoo! front page...I tried posting a link to the video and article but it wouldn't work for some reason, so here's an alternate link... www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2vp_LqCorE

Thank goodness the "real" trophy is tucked safely away at the hall of fame. The one that broke is the presentation trophy. It's a replica of the real deal. Not the first time this has happened, won't be the last.

You could say there are three Stanley Cups.
Stanley #1 : This is the original bowl. It is kept in a vault at the Hall of Fame. It's in a glass case. You can look at it, but you can't touch it.
Stanley #2: This is the trophy that is presented to the Winner of the Stanley Cup Finals. The bowl is a replica of the original bowl, but the rest of the trophy is the real deal. The bands are replaced from time to time to make room for more names. The bands, once removed, are on display in the vault at the Hall of Fame. This is also the trophy that travels. So if you have ever seen the Stanley Cup anywhere but at the Hall of Fame, you are looking at the "real" trophy.
Stanley #3: This is the trophy that never travels. It's is kept at the hall of fame and never leaves. It is kept out of sight and only brought out for display when Stanley #2 hits the road. It's there so visiters to the Hall of Fame will always be able to get their picture taken with the Stanley Cup

We also saw the original Memorial Cup, not the one that broke last Sunday.

I guess after 90 years of team parties and some wild, post-victory parties, the old lady gave away the other day.
Looks like we can blame the Vancouver Giants for softening her up last summer after their Mem Cup win!
