It's not a "done deal" that McDonough will be staying in Austria and won't be back with the Spirit. He only signed a tryout contract. That said, best wishes to Ryan as he he attempts to start his pro career. Excerpt from Website Article: Ryan McDonough's statistics paint a similar picture: representing the Saginaw Spirit in the OHL (Ontario Hockey League/CAN) he scored 45 times from 66 regular season games and another 2 goals in 4 play-off games. Salzburg's head coach Pierre Pagé rates the player very highly: "Ryan is also a proven goal-scorer and is also an extremely quick player, and he has attended NHL training camps over the last three years. He has what it takes to play in the NHL and is hoping to develop further as a player during his time with us." The tryout phase finishes at the end of August, whereupon a decision will be made as to a possible extension of the contract for the remainder of the season.

Salzburg's tournament is over... They lost all 3 of their games. In 3 games played, McDonough scored 2 goals and had 2 holding penalties... www.redbullssalute.com/226.0.html

As of today the Red Bulls have 28 players listed on their roster. Given that most pro teams carry 23-24 max at any one time, I'd assume cuts are to come.
Its interesting that former Kitchener star Petr Kanko is on the roster with McDonough as well.

yep, looks pretty official to me...it's sometimes hard to balance wanting to have great players here in saginaw with the ultimate goal of getting them to the Pro's. Great job by Ryan of making the team and good luck to him!!!!
