Good topic! We know the Spirit are pretty well set on defense, and goal will probably work itself out. But who of last year's group is back this year and where do they fit in? For the purposes of this discussion, I'm going to say McD and Combs don't return. If they do, obviously everyone else would move down. The first line, for me just about leaps off the screen: Chappell-Murovich-Szwarz. But after that it gets a whole lot dicier. I was pretty impressed with Joe Pleckaitis's progress last year, so I'd probably put him at left wing on the second line. But nobody else is standing out at all for me--it's kind of like they are all the same player.............An exception--isn't Brad Smith eligible to return this season? I haven't seen his name anywhere, but he did a lot of yeoman work on a checking line and on PK last year. I realize you want an OA who is going to make a real difference in your team, either offensively or defensively, and if the right player pops up, certainly that would be good. (Especially as offensively challenged as the Spirit may be) But you could make a case for Smith here. I also haven't figured in the first and second round picks--no further comments at this time--and it appears Pachis may be out for at least the beginning of the season. Let's hear what everyone has to say...................

Maybe? Returning roster w/o Combs
Chappell-Murovich-Szwarz Pleckaitis-Sanderson-J. McDonough* Allicock-Taylor-Tront Neily-Pachis*-Smith
Retuning roster w/ Combs
Chappell-Murovich-Combs Pleckaitis-Sanderson-Szwarz Allicock-Taylor-J. McDonough* Neily-Pachis*-Tront
* if healthy
yikes...

W/o Combs I would put Tront or Allicock in place of J. Mcdonough on the line with Pleckaitis-Sanderson.

Not gonna do lines with the returning players because we will add a couple that will not be listed here that will complete the lines. Instead, here is my take:
1st - 2nd Liners: Combs, Chappell, Szwarz, Murovich, Pleckaitis
3rd - 4th Liners: Allicock, Taylor, Neily, McDonough (J), Tront, Pachis, Smith
Sanderson - not a returning player to the Spirit, but I would slot him on 1st - 2nd line probably depending on Combs returning

maybe my puting J. McD on the 2nd line is too high.. I just remeber him at the beggining of last season, he seemed to have alot of speed and moved the puck well (but he was on a line with his brother alot, so that could have made a difference)...

I am not at all sure that either McDonough will be returning to the Spirit this year. Jason's concussion last year was worse than many people were aware, and I haven't heard anything on his status since April. Hopefully he is able to go on with his hockey, and more importantly, his life. If he does return, I'm thinking 3rd/4th line (I like the way you did that, puckman). Like Sanderson, the oft-rumored-but-yet-to-be-officially-announced Nick Trecapelli is is not a returning player, but will find a spot in here someplace. Not having seen him, I won't try to guess where. I don't know about you guys, but laying it out like this makes it clear to me that there haven't been any signings yet because of the organization's depth at forward...........

I forgot, you could add Ogilvie to the 3rd - 4th line since he played some forward last year. Trecapelli slots into his position on the blue line so we might have to include him here as well.
Not that this means much...

What if? There is still the possibility that some of these kids don't want to come back .... Taylor, Neily, Allicock, Tront, Smith. Although Smith was played he's older and how about the others who didn't really get a chance to play and in some cases deserved more than they got. Lots of spots to fill in that situation. Should be interesting!

Patton looked good in camp last year but got hurt--broken arm?? A lot of these guys are not returners--we will see some, but some will probably never play here or elsewhere in the OHL. Either trades, or we are going to be seeing a lot of converted D-men playing forward.
