No sure how this got onto a jersey thread but that is great insight you were able to bring to us. Thanks BP.... I have some insight on the OHL jerseys but will wait and provide under the correct thread... I will try to get this back on track, can anyone please tell me who the confirmed goalies are?

I was at the meet the players as well and the goalies that were there as well as on the official ohl roster were pasquale and lepera.

Thanks acwright84, there should be no controversy with those two, with R.D. not here they were probably the clear cut favorites.

I spent some time talking to Joe Lepera about his injury. I had noticed that during warmups before the preseason game against the Soo that Joe had not taken the normal turn in net for the back up goalie. He assures me that his knee is 100% healed and he is ready to go.
As far as the jersey thing goes it isn't really a thread hi-jacking since the original poster (eaglei12) mentioned the variation in player numbers, including high numbers, from last year. Since jersey numbers were part of the original post, it seems ok to talk about it in this thread.

I think you are right, bp, about the web site issue. I, myself, make websites as part of my job, and when I am building a newer version, I tend to put 99% of my time into that to create the new one, as opposed to updating the one that is coming down soon anyway. Granted, I also do not have a business where updates "need" to be made on a daily basis, or even a few times a week basis. But just putting that in there from someone who does work on websites a bit.

Neither has much experience..Hopefully they both do well for us! Also heard that Ogilvie was sent home this week. Sad to see him go, I don't think we got to see everything he had. All in all I thought he was a pretty steady stay at home defenseman compared to some of the other rookies we had.

With 4 D at NHL Camps (Comrie, Brodie, Crawford, and I believe Underwood in St louis) - will we now have enough D for our exhibition game?

Not to worry, all the good teams go throught this. I can remember going to opening night in London a couple of seasons ago when the Knights raised the Memorial Cup banner and then got soundly beat by the Spirit. What hurts the Spirit this year is the fact that all four guys are defenseman. Take your lumps and move on. My fear is that the nay-sayers are going to use this first game as a gauge for the whole season.
Things won't get much better Saturday either. London, Windsor is not a great way to start when the bulk of you defense is not here. I think the next round of games is going to provide a better gauge on what kind of season we are looking at when we play Sarnia and the Soo on the road.
In those first couple of games look for some forwards to be playing defense, and hang on to your hats. Peace.

London, Windsor is not a great way to start when the bulk of you defense is not here..... What? And Windsor and London won't have their best players at NHL camps too? EVERY TEAM has players away at camps this time of year. The first 6-8 games are just feelers anyways until the trade flurry of late September-early October settles everyones rosters a bit. By my count, London will have Aliu, Carlson, McRae and Taylor (2 of them are their best defensemen) and Windsor will probably have Nemisz, Bailey, Young, Henrique and Greenop away at camps as well!

it's really kind of silly when you think about it...why don't they just start the season a week later so teams can have most, if not all, of their players.

Isnt it some sort of Saginaw hockey tradition to not have any numbers higher that 34 (or in M-A Perron's case 37) That has been the case up till now. Last year when Watson was hired I had a conversation with him about player numbers. He told me at that time he had no problem with player's wearing higher numbers. After the season started and once again all of the players were wearing the traditional numbers I asked him about it again. He told me that they were not able to do anything until the team baught new uniforms. At that time he told me they had a couple of seasons left on the existing inventory. This is what lead me to believe that they were waiting until the new jersey came out next season. I guess we will soon know for sure. Just in case you all are wondering, I have no problem being wrong about this. Peace. I asked Bob Mancini about this when he was the coach here. He had the same philosophy that was stated in the Whaler article about player numbers. He felt that no one player was above the team and that one way to convey that message was to not allow players to have "customized" higher numbers.

If you really want to know the scoop on jerseys why not go to the source, Jose' Ortiz.

If you really want to know the scoop on jerseys why not go to the source, Jose' Ortiz. That was my original plan, however, "hose" wasn't at the meet the players event so I had to go to plan "B".

You know teamspirit08 you surprise me. I always like to leave a little something in every post to help spark a good conversation. With everyone talking about how bad the Spirit are going to be this season, I lump them into the same catagory by saying "all the good teams go through this". I thought for sure someone would call me on it, but no one has. That said, I do stand by my London and Windsor references. Think about it, in preseason polls Windsor is listed not only at the top of the OHL, but the top of the CHL as well and I think London is ranked third. Saginaw, on the other hand, is ranked 17th in the OHL. By your count, London will be without it's top two defensemen. In contrast, Saginaw will be without it's top 4 defensemen. This means they will have to play with third and 4th line guys as well as some forwards playing defense. Are you sure that London and Windsor are going to be at a disadvantage compared to that? Let's just hope Don Edwards can snag an overage defenseman for next to nothing in the next couple of days because the Spirit are going be in need of some bodies. Oh where oh where has Oglivie gone, oh where, oh where can he be.... ;D ;D
