I wouldn't pay too much attention to info coming from the OHL site, it's not too often that it is 100% correct. Not surprised about Ogilvie, he was a border line player last season and if you are going to add some new bodies, someone has to be left off. The Spirit didn't lose that many guys from last year's team and there are just so many spots. Combine that with the fact that the Spirit are pretty deep on defense and, well, there you go.
I'm not sure where they are getting those number from but don't look for players with high numbers on their backs this season. I know Watson does not have a problem with it, but with this being the last season for these jerseys I just can't see the Spirit buying any new ones just for one season. Doesn't make business sense since all of the jerseys will need to be replaced next year. I could be wrong, i could happen, I mean I thought I was wrong once, but as it turned out, I was mistaken. ;D

Is it possible that they are getting new jerseys this year instead of next?

bp correct me if i'm wrong but i think there's a new equipment supplier coming next year and that's the reason for the jersey change...i vaguely remember hearing something about that.

From what I understand, next season the OHL will be switching to the new Rebok Edge jerseys like the ones being used in the NHL now. Replacing jerseys do represent a fairly expensive cash layout for any team. Now I know that the team does buy a few new jerseys each year because some get to the point they are not useable any more and sometimes they will get new jerseys for higher profile players, but I just don't think they are going to get new jerseys just because a player wants a number that is not part of the inventory now. I especially think that when all of the jerseys are going to replaced next season. At the end of the day, it's still a business and this would not be a good business decision. On a side note, next year, the Spirit should have a pretty nice sale on game worn jerseys so if you are looking to add to, or start your game worn collection, a sale is coming.

This is probably a really bad question to be asking, but I'm going to do it anyway. Does the team have to purchase a new set of uniforms for the game-used one's they auction off at the end of the regular season each year?
Also, would players who leave the team at the end of the season and are not returning such as a Tomas Zaborsky or David Jarram get to keep a jersey?

someone email that to Constantine...rather than publishing another article bashing Daniels, maybe he could give us some good nuggets like that guy. I don't know if it "generates interest in the team" but it's a good read for those who follow the squad.

Isnt it some sort of Saginaw hockey tradition to not have any numbers higher that 34 (or in M-A Perron's case 37)

Isnt it some sort of Saginaw hockey tradition to not have any numbers higher that 34 (or in M-A Perron's case 37) That has been the case up till now. Last year when Watson was hired I had a conversation with him about player numbers. He told me at that time he had no problem with player's wearing higher numbers. After the season started and once again all of the players were wearing the traditional numbers I asked him about it again. He told me that they were not able to do anything until the team baught new uniforms. At that time he told me they had a couple of seasons left on the existing inventory. This is what lead me to believe that they were waiting until the new jersey came out next season. I guess we will soon know for sure. Just in case you all are wondering, I have no problem being wrong about this. Peace.

If I'm Peter Krupsky (who works for the Whalers), I think my time would be better spent out of the office selling ticket packages in a market that struggles to sell the OHL game. An article like that discussing a "jersey shuffle" doesn't do much to sell the game to the thousands of Plymouth fans who choose not to attend games down there.

OK...I feel compelled. You got me.
Who's to say Krupsky doesn't do that? Sell as hard as he can. They're lucky to have a guy who broadcasts, markets, and sells.
You try selling the Whalers in a major market like Detroit with a depressed economy. They have a lot more competition than Saginaw does.
The Whalers are a pretty first-class organization, and anyone with the Spirit will tell you the goal is to aspire to be like Plymouth/Kitchener/London and now potentially Windsor.
The Whale have a better and more informative website than the Spirit do. So why take a cheapshot at the guy who puts it together?

Ok folks, just got home from the Spirit meet the players event and I got the skinny on the jerseys. Yes, they are going to the higher numbers this year so it appears that the numbers listed on the OHL web site are correct. That said, as I suspected, they are not getting new jerseys until next season. They are just changing the numbers on the jerseys that need changing.
The team was introduced wearing the numbers they have been wearing for the preseason games.
Just a little scoop on the new jerseys for next season. The white jerseys will have more white and the blue jerseys will have more blue. The logos will change slightly to better fit the cut of the new jersey.
One off topic comment about the web site. There is no question there is work to be done. I blame part of the problem recently on the fact that the Spirit are working on a new web site so it stands to reason they are not spending as much time as the should on the old one. Let's all hope when the new site is launched that things will improve. Peace.
