Before anybody starts saying this guy is not worth what we gave up for him or not a goal scorer, why don't we wait until after we see him play a few times. That way we will have a better idea if it was a good deal or not.

That's no fun!
Kidding. Sort of. He'll get a fair shot from me. But if we'd traded for John Tavares, would you do the same and tell people not to get excited, and let's "wait and see" if he's any good or not?
And by the way, before all of you make any predictions in your own individual walks of life about who will be in the Super Bowl or who will be in the Stanley Cup Finals, why don't you all just WAIT and see who actually made it there, ok?
And stop doing fantasy hockey leagues. What fun is it trying to "predict" who will have a lot of points and who won't? Why don't you all just wait and see who actually does well, and who doesn't.
Kidding. Sort of.

We were in a higher mode of rebuild last year but still traded for jarram midseason. Hardly anybody was making as big of a negative stink about that and I can promise you that bochek is a better player than david was. As of right now we only had one o/a because combs is probably not coming back so we were supposed to go all year with one O/A. As far as getting him for free if we would have waited for him to go to waivers other teams would have gone after him and he would have had his choice. Do you think he would have chosen Saginaw? not likely so we jumped at him first.

Do you think he would have chosen Saginaw? not likely so we jumped at him first. With regards to Waivers, if they are like any other sport, there is a set order that teams have to claim him. If a team puts a claim in, they have to compensate the other team with, i'm guessing, cash or a marginal draft pick. What you're speaking of is called "clearing waivers" where no team has acted but the player then has to be released from the team to "pick where he wants to go." According to the NOOB, he was put on "recallable waivers" which i've never heard of. The only thing I can think that compares to that is "NFL restricted free-agency" where a team, like Saginaw, can make an offer for the free-agent but Kingston could match the offer and keep him. It's not the same but I think it's along those lines

The OHL terms "Waivers" in two categories. Usually a team will put a player on "Recallable Waivers" the first time, which means that other OHL teams have a 24-hour window to put a claim in on a player who is on Recallable Waivers.
Usually its until 5:00 pm the day after the waivers on the player are placed. At 5:00 pm the next day, the league office takes a list of all the teams that may have put in a claim, and will notify the team (in this case, Kingston) of the teams that have interest.
If the player is on recallable waivers, Kingston will recall his rights, then contact the team(s) that are interested to negotiate a trade.
I think this was the case for Bochek. Saginaw ended up offering the "most" (if there were other teams involved) and dealt a draft pick.
If player is placed on "Waivers without Recall", the team lowest in the standings based on last year's standings get to claim the player.
The order of claim I think changes around December 1st of the playing year, whereby the standings for the current year, in inverse order of last to first, becomes the claim order for the remainder of the season.

good info...i don't ever think i've heard about "recallable waivers." I guess that just saves the GM from making 30 phone calls.

I'm not trying to pick a fight with you or anyone else on here but I find myself again not agreening with the assumptions you make. Why do you think this guy would have other teams after him? Players like him clear waivers and become free agents all the time. We're not talking about placing a guy like Asselin on waivers here. This guy is a non-factor on a poor team. I think he would have cleared waivers and we could get him for free. Or sign the other kid I heard about for free. As for Jarem, he was a role player for some pretty good teams before coming here. And I don't think anybody was super pumped for him coming here either. But it seems to me some folks on here think this kid is the answer to our scoring problems or something. I simply believe he could have been had for free or there are other options for like kind players that wouldn't have cost the team anything.

Here's one of him scoring a shortie , Look at the work ethic on this play, plus you can notice when they show him on the bench he's wearing an "A". Must be something to him, just didn't fit Kingston's plans. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADPKSMZVSiw&feature=related

Frogger, I understand your reasoning, and to a point I agree. However, how many 7th round draft choices make it in this league?? If this guy was good, Kinston never would have let him go for a that. I don't think Saginaw really gave up anything to get this guy. Having said that, I hope he plays well here in Saginaw.
