good move by saginaw. I said 2 days ago when i read on the noof that kingston was letting him go that we need to go after him. We really didn't give much up and got an established forward that will provide some scoring. Way to go spirit.
Also he is another player that is not afraid to drop the gloves something that i know many spirit fans will appreciate. ;D

Plus-side: Not a lot given up in a year when the team should think about rebuilding from square one...they did the opposite as I mentioned a few weeks ago trading high picks to get Nick Lees, when they also weren't going anywhere...
Minus-side: As for "providing some scoring". Ten goals is his career high. Not exactly getting a Top 6 forward, because otherwise, why wouldn't Kingston keep him?

yea I get that his career high is 10 but you also have to remember that he was on a pretty terrible team his whole career as well. He didn't have much help. Saginaw is better this year than kingston has been in the last 2 so I will say now kyle will have more than 10 goals this year.

I agree. But I think thinking he'll score 20 will be a stretch.
They did have Cory Emmerton for a year and a half - and he's miles better than any forward we currently have.
You know, if we're being objective.

So wih the addition of Bocheck who sits and what is the prediction with line changes if any? Getting Comrie, Crawford and Brodie all back who sits on D and what defensive matchups do we have?

I disagree here that Saginaw gave up to much. I hear there is a kid in camp right now trying out for Saginaw who is an O/A center that is not from the O. He could easily fill any role the "goal scorer" from Kingston could. Why give up anything for a kid that has 10 whole goals in his OHL carreer? I don't care who the team is he played for, ten goals is about as good as zero.

My bad, I didn't check the stats out myself before posting. Mr. Bochek actually has 17 Ginos and 17 Apples, 34 points, spanning the prior two seasons and one game this season. Compare that to our other OA, Chappell, who has 25 goals and 34 assists for 59 points during the same span. I come to the same conclusion, why give anything for this guy? He could have been had for free after his release or keep the other kid I heard about if he's good enough.
And to acwright, - Question - If his numbers are poor due to his playing for the lowly Kingston squad, and they released him, why would we want their castoffs? If he played for a winner last year and was released then maybe he just didn't fit in due to the strenght of the team but in this case the team is poor and he couldn't stick. Not a good pick up for any draft slot IMHO.

Frogger1, take the time to look at what the folks in Kingston are saying. That tells me more about the kid than anything else. He sounds to me to be "Watson's" kind of player. Good pick up in my book. Most over- ager's of any talent this time of year will cost you a pick somewhere in the 2-4 range. Getting this kid for a 7th is a pretty good deal. If he turns out to be the fan favorite that he was in Kingston, it's a real bargain. If there is this other kid you speak of, why not keep them both?
Here's just a couple of samples from the Kingston fan board;
"Get A Clue" writes; "Great news. Saginaw's got themselves a gamer.
I know which team I'll be quietly cheering for this season."
and then there is this from "PJFronts" "this is good news for Kyle as he stays in the O and is going to a team where he will get good ice time....nice one for the Spirit
but unlike some others, I will still cheer for the Fronts

frogger the reason kingston let him go is not because he wasn't good enough to make the squad it's because the team is rebuilding and they wanted the roster spot for younger players to build for the future. It doesn't make sense to keep an o/a on a team building for the future.

Great point AC... I think that is maybe what the Spirit should be doing. I wish we had our first and second rounders here so they could be building our future.

What does Cory Emmerton have anything to do with Saginaw getting Bochek? Emmerton was traded to Brampton last year, is not in the league this year, and will be playing for Grand Rapids. And how is this objective?
I don't recall this player from the past few seasons, so I take what Fronts fans say at this point. They really liked the kid, so I put weight into that.

And how is this objective? I don't recall this player from the past few seasons, so I take what Fronts fans say at this point. They really liked the kid, so I put weight into that. I'll explain. Emmerton was with Kingston. A poster mentioned that this year's Saginaw team is better than Kingston when Bochek was there. Yes, better than Kingston's team last year. Maybe not better than the 31-win team Frontenacs from 06-07. Kingston also had Bobby Hughes, Bobby Bolt, etc. They had some offensive talent and Bochek wasn't really a factor in their offence. The suggestion was that Bochek might light it up because he's with better players and a better team (read: more offensive talent), and I'd argue he's on a team with less offensive talent than the Kingston team 2 years ago. Even the biggest Spirit cheerleaders concur that Saginaw has to keep games low-scoring, use the three very good defencemen they have a fair bit, and Pasquale has to be a legit #1. Then they MIGHT have around the same point total as last year. If Combs indeed isn't back, this team has lost 155 goals from last season. If you think there are 155 new goals on this team, be it from returning or new players, well - as Ron Burgundy would say: "Agree to disagree".

Well thank goodness the Saginaw team isn't rebuilding but instead going for the Mem Cup this year....c'mon...Saginaw is rebuilding too. Besides, some are saying this guy would have made their team if they weren't rebuilding? So his value is so little they can only get a 7th rounder for him? I don't buy the argument. Either he's good and warranted better than a 7th round or he isn't, in which case we didn't need to pay anything for him. I simply don't buy he is anything but a move for the sake of making a move. I think his points over the past 2 seasons indicate that. I do hope I'm wrong but I don't think I am.
