boy it looks like he just has to beat out that McIntyre guy and he'll be at least the backup in the AHL. I would assume the other guy will be the starter since the Worcester team picked him up as a free-agent sometime this year.

Given that the average AHL team employs anywhere between 5-7 goalies a season, I wouldn't hold my breath.

I agree with you newguy that I dont think that is possible. However I think teamspirit may be reffering to guys who might just get signed for one game or something due to injury.
I am very happy for Daniels though. Its taken a lot of heat over the years but I always thought he was solid for the Spirit. You have to wonder what happened in Atlanta. Shutout in his only game and he didnt get to camp.
From a Spirit standpoint though I dont know how good this can be. They better trade him quickly because his value has to be dropping with the potential to be playing pro hockey. If Combs sticks in Lake Erie, Daniels in Worcester and McDonough already in Europe those are some key components who we got nothing for because we never traded them. Trades really could of bolstered our line up. Not trying to bash Edwards again but you have wonder what hes thinking holding onto those guys and not trying to get some players who picks to get this team going in the right direction.

If we the fans "know" that Combs & Daniels are likely not coming back, why wouldn't the other GM's in the league? Why would they trade us ANYTHING for players who in all likelyhood will not be back?

Oh, I'm always up for a good time.. Please do....tell me the AHL teams who employ SEVEN goalies... (bated breath) might want to grab a respirator. Last year the 29 AHL teams employed 134 goalies - an average of 4.6 goalies per team over the course of a season. Maybe I should have said 4-6. Let me know if I should call EMS

Actually, make it 5-7. There were 11 more goalies who backed up in the A last year but never saw game action.
Manchester employed 7 goalies last year, Peoria 6, Syracuse 6, Iowa 6..... well, you get the picture....

SGF -
Im just saying they would help contending teams in the stretch run, they are probably some of the best possible overage help in the league .. Im sure they could be acquired for perhaps a conditional pick with potential future considerations if they were to return from pro ..
Par example .. Mitch Maunu
That all I meant

Much to some's chagrin. So you were wrong when you said 5-7. OK. Fair enough. It takes a big man to admit they were completely wrong in their estimation. And when you write "employ", the suggestion is that there are more than 2-3 at a time, which is ludicrous. Obviously - some guys roll in, they play a few games, and then are sent down to the ECHL or wherever. There are about 60 spots in the AHL for goalies at any one time. Maybe 65-66. There aren't as many as....two freaking hundred and ten, which was your hint. San Jose probably would assign Daniels to the ECHL. He is 20, and not the prospect some other guys are.

From the Worcester website it said he played really well and only let in one goal during the game he played.
Looks like he is playing in the ECHL with the Phoenix Roadrunner.

Worcester just had too many goalies - SJ just sent them another one (Greiss), so there's no way he really would have made that team. I think it would be a mistake for him to give up an OA year in the OHL to play in the ECHL, but it's not my decision to make, I suppose. I think his stock would be higher with at least AHL clubs if he turned in a good OA season in the OHL.
