Second period just finished with the Spirit leading 5-2.
First period was all Spirit with Allicock, newcomer Skellett and Swarz scoring.
Second period had Kingston scoring early and Comrie replying. Kingston comes right back to make the score 4-2. Plecatis scores late in the period to make it 5-2 after two.
Skellett looks like he may be a great pickup. He is very composed on the PP, very patient does not make too many bad decisions. He is QUICK, he made a couple of Kingston Dmen look like they were skating in cement.
Jack has one assist. Comrie looks like the rest the last half of the last game has done him some good- he has a goal and 2 assists in 2 periods.
The Spirit looked like they let up in the second but replied whenever Kingston scored.

The Comrie goal was a beauty! Haven't seen one that nice in a while... oh wait, the Szwarz goal was nice too! Sanderson almost took a half slapshot to the left of the net right on the stick of Szwatz who redirected it into the net. Looked like the Sanderson shot/pass was intentionally off the net so Szwarz could tip it in. A few nice ones tonight!

I think Comrie getting benched last game DID do something for him - he's up to 1 goal & 3 assists! 7-3 Saginaw. Nice to see Combs back, too... 2 assists so far.

Good effort by the Spirit, could have been a little more consistant but we'll take it. They never let up and responded every time Kingston got back to within 2 goals.
Two wins in a row now if we can get a couple more this weekend and we will be right with the big boys.
Jack seemed to get better as the game went on, he made a beauty pass to Chappell for his goal.
Skellett made some Dmen look sick on a couple of those moves. He is going to compliment Combs big time and with Chappell on the wing this is going to be an exciting line to watch.

I thought Jack played an absolutely terrible game. He dogged it most of the night and found the puck for two assists. I was not impressed. Looked like his mind was elsewhere.
Skellett is going to be an exciting player to watch. I was very impressed with him tonight. He was always working when he was on the ice, and he could have scored 2-3 more goals. The puck found him most of the night and he took advantage. Very nice addition to this lineup.
Overall, good effort by the team tonight. They will need to tighten up a little for tomorrow night's game, and especially for Sunday.

Can somebody explain to me how Comrie doesn't get a first or second star tonight. He had the beautiful goal and 3 assists and was +2. Arguably the best stats of the night. He was overlooked and that is not right.

Remember our beloved beat writer usually picks the stars. Are you surprised he was overlooked now?
But you're right. He played an excellent game and should have been honored after the game as a star, and in my opinion, instead of Combs.

"I thought Jack played an absolutely terrible game. He dogged it most of the night and found the puck for two assists. I was not impressed. Looked like his mind was elsewhere."
My thoughts exactly. He looked like he did not care what happened tonight. I hope this changes if he is staying with the team. Any word on if he is or not?

Let's not forget that the only game action Jack has had since last season are the scrimmage games he was in at the Colorado and Lake Erie camps. Why would he "dog it" or "not care" if in fact he wants to be traded? That would not be in his best interest. Let's see what happens tonight and Sunday.

I'm willing to give him a pass right now. But, considering Skellett only had Vancouver's rookie camp, all of 5 days, under his belt prior to coming to Saginaw, he should not have been that much better than Jack was last night. But Skellett was considerably better against Kingston. I hope, for Jack's sake and the sake of the team, he decides that it is important to play hard each night.
One other thing about the game, I really liked the line combos last night. For those not in attendence, the combos were, for most of the night:
Chappell-Skellett-Combs Szwarz-Murovich-Sanderson Pleckaitis-Bochek-Allicock Svoboda-Fillman-Jarusek
D Pairings
Crawford-Brodie Comrie-Underwood Sol-Walch
Scratches: Tront, Pachis, McDonough, Trecappelli, Kavanaugh

Shanghai liked his point so much he posted it 3 times! Sorry about that. I have deleted the duplicate posts. I am reading and posting from my BlackBerry because my apartment ISP all of a sudden decided about a week ago to not give me access to the forum via my laptop. I am trying to get the problem resolved but no luck yet.

You guys cannot be serious about Combs "dogging it" in his first game back. Have you watched him for the last two years at all? He didn't get to be one of the most prolific--and respected--players in the league by slacking. How about giving him two or three games to get settled? And incidentally--he would not be the first player to come back from NHL/AHL camps and have trouble adjusting to the one-or-two step slower pace for awhile. Players seem to go one way or the other--either they have trouble adjusting to the slower pace, or they are all over it.

I don't know where this "dogging it" stuff is coming from. He played just like he did last year. If anything as a player gets more experience, he realizes he does not have to run all over the place at a million miles an hour. Just play your position.
