sf8 (because you posed the question) and every other spirit forum poster -
Combs situation. Seeing as its rumored that Jack has asked for a trade, do you think after the recent success of the team this week and the acquisition of a new line mate who seems to have chemistry with both him and Chappell does he decide to stay??
and Back up goalie situation ..
Lepera seems to have been diagnosed with the Zelenbaba syndrome. The coaching staff or management doesnt think he is able to play. The only time last year Daniels started three games in a row last year was when Pasquale was injured from a concussion and the last weekend of the season in the fight for 7th. Obviously this was because Watson felt Eddie was capable of giving the team a chance to win.
However, I still believe the acquisition of a back up goalie in which Watson has confidence in is important. I also believe that this solely lies in the tradeability of Daniels. There is no way that atleast one contending team in the league doesnt want to acquire him. The spirit seem to be scoring lately. We know we already have a lot of depth on defence. So why not try and trade him to perhaps acquire a pick and a goaltender to compliment Pasquale?

great point sag I think it will be tough for jack to find a destination where he will be as comfortable with his teammates. Besides with the exception of windsor there are no guarentees any teams are going to be contenders. I think he will be better off staying with us and help us contend.

Good points, ssf. Re: Combs, I don't think any move will be made on Jack for awhile. As we get closer to the trade deadline---still forever and a day away--his value to clubs that need a scorer will increase. It will be interesting to see if the Spirit are a seller or buyer, at that point. Who knows--we might be in great shape to make the playoffs--stranger things have happened. However--a big however--it's imperative to remember that at this point in time, we don't have a single 1992 player on our team. Will that hurt us this year? Probably not. Down the road? I t could be devastating. If for no other reason, I see Combs traded. If he's traded--and I hope the Spirit are doing well enough to make that a tough decision--my best wishes will go with him. The back-up is another ball of wax. ("zelenbaba syndrome"--good one!) Watson hs always been a 2-goalie proponent, and that includes the year Plymouth won the OHL. They didn't have a back-up--they had 2 excellent goalies. I really think he would like to do that here. Daniels is problematic. He is presently w/ the Phoenix Roadrunners (ECHL) and I hear he got shelled last night. If he were to come back, he is definitely not going to be staying w/ the Spirit. i confess, I don't know where he would be going, but it would be nice if they had a promising young back up goalie!!!

Well, since I apparently lack credibility and relevance, my post probably doesn't mean anything and won't get read.
But here are my thoughts on the game:
(1) Saginaw should have lost. They played a brutal 2nd and 3rd periods. They were out of gas, and that's fine for a 3-in-3 stretch. But Plymouth was there as well, and they thoroughly outplayed the Spirit after the 1st period. My concern is the players won a game with less than their best effort, which could lead to them thinking that they can play this way and win games. They can't. Lets hope they don't fall into this.
(2) Thankfully Pasquale played in net today. He was very good. Lepera would have given up 7-8 goals had he been in. We definitely need an upgrade at backup goalie. Two nights in a row Pasquale should have been a star and wasn't.
(3) I know he played the first two games of the weekend, but it was shocking to not see Smith between the pipes for Plymouth. He generally owns us when he plays. His numbers are not good, but usually he plays well and steals games against us.
(4) Jordan Skellett does not belong in front of his own net with the puck. The opponent's net, yes, but not his own. What was he thinking? I'm sure he will hear about it.
A nice sweep of the weekend for the boys, which hopefully earns them a day off tomorrow.

I agree that Plymouth was all over the Spirit in the second period. But I thought the third period was pretty even. Both teams made costly and potentially-costly errors. As you said, Pasquale played well--I expected him to be a star, also. But we HAVE to find someone to spell Eddie. I doubt that it will be Ryan Daniels.................I was also amazed not to see Smith. As I recall we handled Hackett fairly well during Smith's absence for World Jrs last year. (With any luck, he'll be gone again.....) I really don't think Watson will let the team start thinking they can coast. I they do start thinking that way, proactices aren't going to be a pretty thing. Sometimes teams play really well and lose. Today was a day that balances that out a little.

Everyone seems to think that Lapera should have gotten the start, but really, did you want his first start of the season against PLYMOUTH? We needed the 2 points from them and I'm not confident at this point that Lapera would have gotten them. Maybe one of the other 2 games this weekend would have been better. I always wondered why they don't play 1 goalie for games 1 and 3 and the other for game 2 in a 3 game weekend. Can someone enlighten me if there is a reason against this? I also liked the way the crowd was getting fired up for Eddie! Good job announcer dude!!! Oh, and were the ref's really lazy during this game?! I was glad when the one fell down. I hoped it would knock some sense into him.

newfan77: i agree maybe lepera shouldn't have gotten the start against the whalers but they could have started him against kingston. and before they make a trade for another back up they should give the kid a chance, why make a move until you are sure you need to
