Would somebody please define toughness as it applies to the hockey player. I'm of the opinion that the player who who retrieves pucks regardless of who is bearing in on them and makes the appropriate play is far tougher than the guy who stands at center ice and drops the gloves. HUH? Forgive my ignorance but what or whom are you referring to? I don't know of a position on the ice that "retrieves" pucks but maybe I'm missing the obvious. I do know that there are different definitions of "tough" but certainly a guy that drops the gloves is tough. Maybe not smart or the kind of toughness you need but certainly tough. I also acknowledge that a guy that is willing to muck it up in the corners is tough whether he drops the gloves or not but maybe just for me can you be a little more lucid?

Seriously Sparky, you're not comparing Kain Allicock to Bob Probert are you? I assume it's tongue-in-cheek. If not then consider that Probert had a long NHL career that, but for his drug and alcohol problem could have been pretty special. Allicock is a arguably an average player on an average OHL team. Even look at your own Junior stats of Probert. He had 12, 35 and 21 goals respectively. Kain has a whopping three. Not trying to start a fight but more shocked I guess. Eaglei had it right. I'm not suggesting Kain is the next Bob Probert, my point was merely that one can play the enforcer role and be able to put the biscuit in the basket on a regular basis. I think you will see that young kain will surely be able to handle BOTH roles on this team. He may not be a 30 goal scorer, or a 20 goal scorer, but face it, how many of those has this team had in the past anyway. Probert was just the first guy that came to mind (out of many) that came from the O with a scoring ability and an enforcer role.

Just a quick check of the math and Kain is on pace to score 17 goals this season. Could 20 be that big of a stretch? He is showing the potential and should get better as the season progresses. Now I won't go so far as to say that Kain will be a 30 goal scorer any time soon, but I believe 20 is very doable. This is especially true with the Spirit's score by committee offense. I think the team is also going with the "toughness" by committee system as well. For my money, I would rather watch a guy like Szwarz who can play the game and can also hold his own in a fight when he has to. I'm not a big fan of the "let's go" type of guy who plays better with his gloves off than he does with his gloves on. Just my opinion.
