This is always one of my favorite games to attend. Seeing all those teddy bears flying onto the ice and knowing it will bring a smile to some child's face. I sure hope the Dow is packed that night and Bill has the sidewalks shoveled. ;D

I think it would be cool if we had a cut out of Steven Colbert on the ice and let people throw the Bears , You know how much he hates bears, Maybe he'd notice

someone throw one for me, i can't make it Sat night...wife made plans...most of you know what that's like. I always think back to the first year when we really stunk and couldn't even score a goal to get the bears on the ice. They finally had to announce "throwem" at a stoppage...sad and happy at the same time

I'm all for putting butts in the seats, but how about giving tickets to folks who can't afford to buy them? These folks are some of the highest paid workers in the area and the Spirit think the best way to help them is to give away for free what I have to pay full dollar for? What makes this a good idea? I don't get it. Do they also get a free teddy bear to toss with that free ticket? I just don't understand how giving free tickets to people who clearly can afford to buy their own comes off as supporting the comunity. I am serious, can somebody please explain it to me. Not trying to be hard case here, but I just don't get it.

wow your karma king status will certainly stay secure with that post OUCH!!! It's true that these guys are paid well but they are also losing their jobs at the fastest rate in the state so I have to disagree. The idea is to take their minds off the stress of potentially losing their jobs. If your job was at risk wouldn't you want an outlet?

I believe the seats are actually being paid for (I'm sure with a discount) by Meijer, Frito Lay ect. So they are paid attendance. That being said, who's job right now IS secure? I work for the newspaper and I know mine certainly isn't. Those folks are a huge part of our community and as they go, so do we.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but everyone who has a job is at risk. People who make a lot less money are losing their jobs too. All I am asking is, why give free stuff to people who do not need it? Why does asking that question make me a bad guy. Why not give free tickets to those who already are out of work. You know, bring your last weeks unemployment check stub and get a free ticket. These folks need to show their employment ID's which means they still have a job. Hey look, I've got nothing against autoworkers. In fact, I'm doing my part to help the auto industry. I have baught 4 new vehicles in the last 8 years. I can't do any better than that. That said, you still haven't explained to me why giving free stuff to folks who are in a better position to pay their own way is a good idea. You also haven't explained to me how this is "supporting the community". I have a friend who is a single mom working three part time jobs to keep her kids in food and clothing. As of today, she hasn't been able to do any Christmas shopping because she can't afford it. Wouldn't it be nice for her to get some free tickets she could put in her boy's Christmas Stockings to be able to go to a game? There's a whole bunch of folks who work for Dow that are going to be losing their jobs too. But if they want to get into the "Dow Event Center", they will have to pay full price. I'm serious, I would like someone to explain it to me. I'm not bitter, I just do not understand this way of thinking. I would like someone to explain it to me.

bpfox, come on, I know you're smarter than this...you give free tickets to people who are likely to buy them again in the future...ITS CALLED MARKETING. Yes, this is "good-will" but they are also using the failed auto bailout as a chance to market their team to a large population of the tri-cities. Giving the tickets to someone who can't afford them won't sell concessions and won't sell tickets to future games. You must be just looking to pick a fight because this was an easy one that I wouldn't think would slip past you.

don, I get the whole marketing thing. The problem I have is this is being presented as a "community support" thing. I am listening to Greg Goslin on the radio right now and it's being presented as some "good will" program to help those who might, and I say might, be losing their jobs. It's a crock. Perhaps it is a good marketing tool and I'm all for that, but to pass it off as some sort of "good will", public service, community support thing is disingenuous at best. If the team and it's sponsors want to truely help those in need, by all means do it. I know those in need, those in need are friends of mine, the GM/Delphi folks are not those in need.

I gotta agree with BP here. If the workers of GM/Delphi managed their money halfway decent and lived on a budget and saved for the future, they would be prepared for this type of economic situation until they can hopefully find a new job. However, I have been unemployed for 6 years now and have yet to be offered any perks by anyone anywhere. Maybe these autoworkers will have to trade in one of there 2009 Expensive fully-loaded vehicles for something less expensive. Or how about not having to live in a bagillion dollar home? I too agree that there are people out there that are far more deserving of tickets than these people. And as for who BP gives his tickets to, does it matter? I'm guessing he gives them to his friends which to him may be very deserving. But he can ALWAYS give me a couple tickets!!!

I am locking this thread - you are all turning something VERY NICE into a "poor me, buy me a free ticket too" thread, and a negative thread. That is not what this thread was about.
