Anybody been down to a Generals game yet this year. I am thinking about making the trip down there tonight to check them out, but last time I was there the place was a dump and the team sucked. But I heard they have updated the place a bit.

According to some Flint fans I know, the "improvements" they made were nothing really, and the team was mathematically eliminated from the playoffs WEEKS ago... they are REALLY bad, from what I am told. That said, it is still hockey, so I would go!

What "improvements" did they do to the arena? I recall the days back in the late 90's where you couldn't get a ticket to that place. I've heard their status for next season is up in the air, although they have started selling season ticket packages for next year. My how the times have changed.

I went to one last year. I hear some about them since I live in Genesee County. The only improvements I recall hearing about was to the parking lot and lighting. Their "video board" left a lot to be desired. A projector on a screen in one corner of the arena. I remember thinking their beer prices were reasonable for some tall boy cans I agree with SGF thou, they are BAD this year and have traded off much of their talent for youth and/or lower salary players (kinda the way the O does it on down years). I have also heard they SHOULD be back next year with a re-worked ownership group. M-Live has some interesting stuff on them if you are curious.

They "say" they are averaging 1600 people per game, but every review/article from the Flint Journal or reports from people at the games say that they are SEVERELY padding the ticket count & that in reality they are averaging more like 1000 OR LESS per game! I, too, remember that place always being packed & it was hard to get a ticket. Now, you can walk up 10 minutes before the game & get front row if you want.
I have wondered why the Spirit & the Generals never did a cross-promotion thing, where one night in Flint was Spirit night & one night in Saginaw was Generals night. Do a group ticket thing where in Flint they sell a group of tickets to Generals fans for a Saginaw game & vice versa. Or how about a Spirit pre-season game in Flint? There are a LOT of hockey fans down there that are so disheartened with that league & the team that I know some would make the drive to Saginaw for some Spirit games if they could just get a glimpse at the product on the ice. So many people are hung up on the fact that the OHL is mainly teenagers or "kids" and not "MEN"... which is such a bad misconception.

I skate in Lapeer and have been spreading the word that "our" hockey in Saginaw is MUCH better than in Flint. Maybe that is why their attendance is down....
