So, any word on whether or not Saginaw lodged a formal protest with the OHL on the goal that was taken away Friday night in Sarnia??

The right thing to do is to replay the game from the point of the screw up. That's how it woud be done if it was a baseball game.

MLive.com confirmed today that the Spirit will not recieve a point, just an explanation from the OHL. I would hate to see what happens if Saginaw ends up missing the playoffs by 1 point, makes a strong charge but loses the division by 1 point, or anything else of that nature. Unfortunately, we're just going to have to deal with it I guess. www.mlive.com/spirit/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1193838700317960.xml&coll=9&thispage=1

At the very least the referees who worked the game and the video review officials should not be allowed to work OHL games for a long, long time. How can they not know the basic premise that once play resumes the decision stands?? It's totally unacceptable and the league had better make a statement by punishing these officials. Can't wait to see what Mr. Branch decides to do about this.
If the same referees do continue to work, the league better not assign them to work any games in Saginaw. Can't imagine what the fans might do in that case.

I think the fair thing to do is give Saginaw 2 points. I know that sounds odd but think about it for a second. Both teams get 2 points and all is squared up. Saginaw doesn't have to play a bunch of what ifs and Sarnia wouldn't penalized for an error they had no control over.
This way if Saginaw were to miss the playoffs by 1 point or miss out on a better playoff seed by 1 point, they are not penalized by a major officating blunder.
I can't understand how the OHL could call it an overtime loss and give them 1 point because no one knows how the game would have changed had the goal counted.

It would be nice to know if Conrad Heche is going to have any impact in this, rather than the league's talking heads, whose primary concern is CYA

I find it interesting that there "may have been outside influences" in the press box on Friday night as referenced in the story. I wonder who may have knocked on the video replay room door after the puck was dropped? Very curious indeed during a key divisional matchup.

I can tell you right now, there will not be any delay in making a decision on any close calls in the Dow.
