My two dream players for the Spirit to take this year in the 1st are LW Travis Barron or Defenseman Logan Stanley.
The Scouting Bureau on Barron: "Heart-and-soul character player…above-average offensive abilities include, strong possession skills with good finishing ability, physical & strong on special teams…think Scott Laughton" Seems like he fits Gilberts mold of tough power forward type player and would be able to slot into the PK next to Sadowy for a few years.
It wont happen because we have enough young defensemen but I really think Stanley is going to be a stud in the OHL. He already has a 6-5 to 6-6 200+ LB frame and doesnt turn 16 for another month and a half. Has good offensive game for a big man averaging a point a game last year.
As for goalies I would love to grab Lazerev. Although, I have a feeling he is an early 2nd round pick though even being a year older. The goalie coach for the Red Wings did a few sessions with him and he said he was the best 16 year old goalie hes ever seen. If we could grab him in the third it would be an absolute steal. There are a few other solid goalies that should be available in the 3rd though according to Sean Lafortine.

Here is some info on Jake Paterson and the status of the goalies in the Wings system...sounds like he WON'T be back next year but there's nothing for certain until he goes to tryouts next year and makes/misses the team. www.wingingitinmotown.com/2014/4/1/5569970/jake-paterson-recalled-by-the-grand-rapids-griffinsI don't know who on here said he would go to the ECHL but I doubt that will be the case...I think he's either going to be in Grand Rapids or back in Saginaw.

Also, I wanted to weigh in on the "decent every year" discussion.
I said back before Todd Watson was fired that the model in the OHL to follow for Saginaw is the stay consistent year after year and every once in a while you get a guy like Saad and you can make a run at it. My issue back then was that while I felt that Todd Watson was a good enough Coach/GM to keep us consistent, I didn't think he necessarily had the chops to take that ultra-talented team to the championship level. That's not meant to slight TW because I do think he's a really good coach but I just didn't think he was able to mesh the egos in the locker room to create a championship team. I think he was also very good at getting players to overachieve when maybe they didn't have as much talent as the Londons but we were able to compete night in, night out.
The jury is out for me on Paliafito/Gilbert. If you asked me a year ago, I would have given both of them high marks but this year REALLY perplexed me. I was absolutely baffled that our defense/goaltending would play ALL YEAR like they did. I thought the acquisition of Graham was just what we needed (speedy dman) to complement the size and experience on D and it was not a good year. Paterson stood on his head for the playoffs and the defense consistently left him out to dry. Now I don't know how much the forwards factor in to this but it seemed like guys like Kea, Moutrey and others helped with the D but I may be crazy.
The only thing that I hope for every offseason is that we have hockey in Saginaw the following year. At any given moment Garber could say I don't want to own a team any more and the team would be off to somewhere in Canada and we'd have an empty arena that we pay taxes on. That's a real possibility every year and I thank him for keeping the team here year after year because it's a great product. That's not to say I agree with everything Garber/Goslin do but the team is in Saginaw because of him (and the taxpayers for the arena renovations) and it's great to have in town.

Hey for all our complaining about not ever winning a title, at least we're not Kingston fans. Eliminated tonight now makes it 16 years since they won a playoff series. Talent ain't everything.

Every pundit around the league was predicting that series would go 7 games, but I doubt if any predicted Kingston would win the first three and the Petes would win the last 4.

Spirit have 11 picks in this year's draft. London has 20. "Those who have, get". Fretting over what London has will make you grow old far too soon. Look at it this way, we can only sign 4, that's the exact same number as London. See, nothing to worry about. Peace!

You can only sign 4 for next year, you can sign more when they turn 17 and beyond. London can now take a few flyer picks on high end kids bound for college and work on them for 2 - 3 years to get them to sign.

Jankowski Copp Compher Nieves (acquired in trade) McCoshen Connor (mentioned earlier) We've been drafting plenty of those guys lately....and none of them report. Like BP said, we're not London.

30 minutes to the draft and the four names I keep seeing are Taylor Raddysh, Matt Hotchkiss, Michael Pezzeta and Logan Stanley.

I am seeing the same thing. Would be happy with all 4 depending on what OA we keep.

Saginaw takes F Tye Felhaber with their first pick.
That's a steal at 10 in my opinion.

Is it my imagination or did we draft Igor Larionov's son?
