Draft is tomorrow and no one has any clue who we're taking at 6. I've seen about 5 different players listed by experts as possible picks. We could be in for a surprise. For the first round the guys I think they should be eyeing IMO are Tippett, Lodnia, or Davis in that order. After that, IDK. It's just a crap shoot to guess but based on scouting reports maybe go for guys like Robert Proner, Finn Evans or Jack Phibbs in the second. Maybe use a third on the other Pastujov brother.

Flint has no picks in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. Wow. And only 4 picks in the first 5 rounds

1st - C Brady Gilmour, Quinte 2nd - D Robert Proner, Toronto Titans 2nd - LW Kirill Maksimov, Toronto Jr. Canadians 3rd - G Brendan Bonello, Toronto Titans 3rd - LW Cole Coskey, Chicago Mission The write-up on Proner is that his team was great defensively, and he is big and hits like a truck. His teammate Grima, another defenseman, was picked just a few spots before him. Then in the third round, we took the goalie from that team, so with Cormier, Ovsjannikov, Murdaca, and Bonello, we have four goalies capable of playing here next year. Bonello will probably get a steady Jr. A/Jr. B gig so he can play a full season while Murdaca and Ovsjannikov compete for the other spot on next year's team along with Cormier. Coskey seems like a waste of a pick. Unless someone knows something I don't know. If they were going to burn a pick, why not pick whats-his-name's brother? overtheboards.net/miami-lands-commit-from-elite-forward-cole-coskey/Maksimov looks very promising. I wonder if he is also a Larionov client? I really hope Igor Part II is in Saginaw next year.

I really hope Igor Part II is in Saginaw next year. I think you'll get your wish... The scuttlebutt is that Igor Part I is looking for a house or condo to rent in town so he's not driving back and forth to Detroit

I would also like to point out that I do not have a problem with this trend, but the sheer number of Russian kids coming over to North America to play so they can be drafted at 16 outside the Import Draft system is making the whole concept of an import system irrelevant.
Next year, for example, we could have Artemov, Kodola, Ovsjannikov, Larionov, and Maksimov all on the team at the same time. That is five Russians with only two counting as actual imports. Actually, Kodola is from Belarus but you get my point.

Spirit just took Marc-Andre Pastujov with their fourth round pick. So that's another burned one, but they probably had room for only three 16 year olds on this year's team anyway, so we get to see Gilmour, Proner, and Maksimov this year.

Love the Marc Andre reference! Obviously you want to upgrade any time you can but with the lack of OA's and only one 19, pretty much the entire team is going to be back. I think guys like paliani and the Webb brothers better work hard in the off season because if Gilmour is anywhere close to felhaber he'll leapfrog those guys in a second

Nobody has said anything about Gilmore--good, bad, indifferent? Good pick?

In theory, Proner has Ringuette's spot on the team already. I do not think we had any other defense prospects in the pipeline from previous drafts.
I really wish we could trade import draft picks, because I think they would keep Artemov and Kodola if they could, but our pick is fairly high.
I think the guys who will have to compete for spots will be the Webbs and McPhail, and perhaps Paliani, but there are things I like about all of those guys. Mitchell Webb is the best fighter on the team and plays hard, Jack Webb is actually the best faceoff man on the Spirit but Gilmour may now be, McPhail is fast and grinds, and Paliani is a pest who I think is the best player out of the four. They will not be competing with the new guys so much as they will be competing with each other. There may only be two or three spots on the team for those four guys to fight for.

Flint just took a goalie from Victory Honda. This wouldn't be a case of Papista repeating his first Spirit draft, would it? Remember that one? He took two Canadians at the top and then a bunch of US players who wouldn't report.
On top of that, their first round pick wanted to play in Mississauga. They could have had Tippett at 3 and Missy could have had MacLeod at 4. That's going to be an interesting development.
Just imagine if those two end up essentially traded for each other with Flint and Mississauga both getting high compensation picks next year?

I checked Gilmour's twitter. Looks like Gilmour is wearing #9. And he is definitely coming here. twitter.com/bradygilmour9There is so much about Gilmour to be excited about -- passing, scoring, faceoffs, leadership, humbleness, academics, community minded, he seems like the ideal Spirit player. www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvDfRMDFw4gwww.youtube.com/watch?v=3JAnbpgeTgwNick & Marc-Andre Pastujov are going to be playing their home games at Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth next year.
