With Greg Brady bolting to do broadcasts for our rivals in Windsor, has anyone heard who the new play-by-play broadcaster is going to be this season?? This is very important to me as this will be one of my "life lines" (along with this forum and the NOOF) for following Spirit hockey while living in Shanghai.

"and auh, auh, Combes comes out of the auh, auh corner, now that's what auh, auh forward is sposed to auh do" Don't get me wrong, I think Holmes adds a lot of insight to the broadcasts but by no fault of his own, is very blah and slow for a radio guy. OH!!! I know.... Lynn Roberts and Warren Holmes!!! now that's a broadcasting duo!!!!

I wonder what Great Lakes Loons radio broadcaster Brad Golder is doing this winter?? If he has any hockey broadcasting experience he would be pretty good IMO. He does a nice job on the Loons broadcasts, but baseball and hockey are 2 different animals when it comes to radio play-by-play. The Loons season ends on Labor Day so there would not be any conflicts to start the season.

I have not been impressed with the Loons broadcasts. Golder doesn't seem to be that good (there are long moments of dead air) and I have NO IDEA why they don't have a color guy with him. Baseball is boring, you need to have two guys in there to talk about the game, and other stuff, during breaks in the action.

The game of baseball inherently has dead time associated with it hence my comment that it is not the same as broadcasting hockey. Remember, this is class A minor league baseball which is 4 levels away from the big leagues (A, high A, AA. AAA. majors). They do have a color guy with him during some of the home games.

ShanghaiSpiritFan: Ron Jay Scott was the play-by-play voice of the Saginaw Gears. I believe he was the voice of the team during their 1981 Turner Cup Championship.
Other people that could be brought back to be the radio broadcasters include, Pat Shetler and Al Blade who did games for the Saginaw Gears during the 1972-73 season. Shetler by the way was a former NHL referee. Bruce Cech who did play-by-play for the Saginaw Generals. Dan Waxell was the voice of the Saginaw Wheels or Gary Ratski who was the voice of the Saginaw Lumber Kings.

Ron J Scott did play-by-play for the Gears on WSAM (now the Bay) back in the late 70's and early 80's. He was a DJ at the radio station who had either daily or weekly chats with the Gears head coach during his radio show. He then bacame the color commentator and then the play-by-play guy.
I'd like to see if the guy who did radio for the Wheels when they came to town. I thought he was pretty good. I don't remember his name, though.

How many of you remember Al Blade and Wally Shaver doing radio for the Gears back in the 70's? I think Wally ended up with the Minnesota North Stars and may still be with the Dallas Stars. Al was at the Gears reunion the LumberKings had several years ago (the night they announce they were changing their name to the Gears). I think the paper at that time said he was running several Little Ceasars in Oklahoma.

Yea, Al was in Oaklahoma, he had the entire state rights to Little Cesasrs, but I think he sold that a few years ago. I barely remember those days but my parents speak highly of his work back then.
