The season may be over, but it will still be a busy weekend for the Spirit as the OHL Draft starts tonight. Rounds 1-3 are tonight and 4-15 are tomorrow. Saginaw has the 16th pick in the draft in the first round (full list below). It will be interesting to see Saginaw's approach here. Entirely possible whoever they draft just gets traded at the deadline next year. With their first round pick, Saginaw selects left winger Aiden Young of the London Jr. Knights. Had 57 points (30 goals, 27 assists) in 33 games last season.

Seen a few tweets mentioning that Young had a real nice showing at the OHL Cup. Looking forward to seeing him play.

Full draft class listed in the initial post. Saginaw taking a couple leaps with NTDP-bound players in Round 5, and also drafting two Saginaw natives in Rounds 8 and 9. A high school talent from up north in Alpena taken in Round 14 as well.

Spirit have had pretty decent luck w past Pittsburgh players. Hoping that trend continues!!

Probably the least excited Ive been after a Spirit draft in a while.
Young seems great but I dont see a world where Saginaw doesnt move him at this years deadline for Memorial Cup help.
Jacob Cloutier seems like a system fit and should be a player for us for years to come.
Harmer seems like a Damien Giroux clone. If he even comes close to Damien will be a good pick for Saginaw.
Then 2 USDTP kids who seems like management know are at least 2 years out. Both are steals if they come, and they did play with our owners kid..
Which leads me to the 2 Saginaw boys getting picked. I see DiBlasi as the bug after next season saw that he had some chance at a USDTP program camp invite. Ive never seen Cooper play and Ive heard from some non Saginaw people that he was impressive at the ohl draft combine so maybe there is something there. Both also played with Horcroff and Threnway so maybe they can convice them to come down the road.
The kid from Alpena (sorry dont know names at this point) played for the Jr Spirit along with Cooper and Diblasi. So 3 Jr Spirit players getting picked is a nice sell for the community.
Brings me to the last pick. Apparently Drinkill is friends with the family and believes the kid is still due for some physical maturity. 15th rounders are dart throws as it is. Might as well take the gamble if you believe there is something there. Not going to make or break the franchise

I'm sure all these guys were geeked to begin with but the opportunity to play (at least for 2 days) with Misa and Parekh is something I wouldn't want to pass up.
