Let me preface my comments by saying that, even though the Spirit played well and hard both nights, the Knights were missing most all of their top players. The Knights still at NHL camps include Adam Perry, Patrick Maroon, Tony Romano, Akim Aliu, Steve Mason (goalie), Sam Gagner and Patrick Kane (who is not expected back with the Knights this season). Saginaw is still missing Daniels, Mursak and Williams. Zaborsky, R. McDonough and Comrie did not dress for either game. Cody Sol (who is from Woodstock) played both games, did well and gained valuable experience. Per his mom and dad, after the weekend he'll start playing with St. Mary's of the Western Ontario Hockey League. Scoring in both games is posted on the Spirit website, so I won't reiterate here.
London - their were about 7,500 fans at the JLC Saturday night. Spirit outshot the Knights 33-22 and played well. Besides R. McDonough and Comrie, Berard, Mannino, Fillman and Lepera did not dress. Spirit played well. Must be somewhat intimidating for the younger guys to play in that building. JLC is roughly a half-size Air Canada Centre. Only one bout - Nick Crawford dropped 'em with Anthony Iaquinto. Iaquinto got an instigator penalty (including a game misconduct). Nick handled himself very well. His mom was sitting next to us and you can easily guess her reaction during the fight. Jack Combs received 1st Star of the game (well-deserved). Perron relieved "Z" in the 3rd period.
Woodstock - game was a sell-out, mostly Knights' fans. Again, Spirit played well. Lepera played the entire game and was exceptional in net. He is gonna be a kid to watch. Christopher Breen and Corbin Crawford had a go early in the 3rd period, with Breen a clear-cut winner (hope his hand injured last season is OK). Crawford was certified goofy afterward and had to be helped off the ice. Also hope he is OK. NOOFer poster said it best: "he needed a GPS to find the bench". No shot clock in Woodstock, so I can't give the SOGs.

Glad to hear Breen laid a whomping on someone. It's about time that one of our "tall" players started to lay the wood on these little pests that want to challenge anything that moves.

Thanks for the recap on both games johnt. According to the NOOF game thread for Saturday's JLC game, "Z" let in a couple of softies. Can you give us a little more of a description. If this is true and Lepera was that good in net on Sunday, is it possible that "Z' might have earned himself a bus ticket out of Saginaw??
johnt....check your PMs when you get a chance.

SSF --
First of all Lepera didnt make the trip back with the Spirit to Saginaw.
Second of all if Z was going to be done in Saginaw it would be Matt Hoyle backing up Ryan Daniels
Third of all .. Z hasnt even gotten a chance to play .. he was never given an oppurtunity. All any player needs is a chance and he hasnt gotten it yet.
Have you had one positive post about any player on this hockey team or are you just going to keep listening to the biased opinions of hometown fans on the NOOF from Shanghai and form your own and bash our own players?

Didn't "Z" get to play sat night? Don't get me wrong, I would love to see "Z" as the back up, but if the coaches think he's not ready then I say find someone who is. "Z" has to prove himself in practice, scrimmages, pre-season before the coaches will give him a chance in a game.

Easy there spirits...it's obvious that you're friends with Zelenbaba or perhaps billet him. I have not read one thing on here that has talked bad about him and it was reported on the NOOF (by a London fan) that the goals were soft. Wouldn't an opposing fan report the opposite to make his team sound better? Like spark-dizzle said, we would love to have Zelenbaba as a backup or a starter if he's that good but if he doesn't show the coaches anything he should be shown the door asap. That's sports...if you can't cut it, hit the road...just ask Mannino.

SSF did not speak badly of your precious Z, but I am about to so you might want to close your eyes. Z has been given plenty of chances to prove himself and has failed every time. I posted earlier that I thought Z's fate would be determined more by his own performance more so than any other factor including picking up the rights to Matt Hoyle. That said, Joe Lepera, on the other hand, got his first real chance on Sunday and made the most of it. He played solid in goal and was the games number one star. Z has never looked solid in goal. He might just be the greatest kid on the planet, I don't know him, but as an OHL goalie, he hasn't got what it takes. Lepera may not be backing up Ryan Daniels this season, but you can bet he will be backing up Matt Hoyle next season.

All im saying is that Z played 80 minutes last year ...
I dont see that as an oppurtunity ... Aaron Rock got more minutes then he did before Daniels came in and Aaron was deemed incapable.
If Lepera was going to play a game in the OHL and lose his eligibility .. Z should of played as many minutes as possible in exhibition and Lepera should of backed him up so that we could dress our OA's.
If Daniels isnt back for regular season I would be interested to see whos going to play because we need our OA players in the line up
