Great showing by the OHL tonight. Did anyone but me notice how many highlight shots of drafted OHL players showed the Spirit getting burned? ? I like the McCollum pick for the Wings. They needed to address a lack of depth at goal in the system. Although I am presently fending off a furious internet attack from #2 son on why the Wings should have drafted Jared Staal..............

My favorite pick of the night was Calgary picking 25th and selecting Greg Nemisz from the Spits in honor of the late Mickey Renaud. Mickey was also a Flames' draft pick from a previous year. Class act!

Boy, i would love to land this guy in the OHL import draft this year...here's the text from espn:
Columbus, with the sixth pick, took a chance and chose top-ranked European prospect Nikita Filatov. NHL teams have shied away from Russians in fear they might not play in North America because of the lack of a transfer agreement.
Filatov, however, has vowed he'll play in the NHL, and even committed to joining the Canadian Junior Hockey League if he doesn't make a big league roster.

The draft has to be a huge recruiting tool for the Spirit to use to sign Saad and Parker. Boys, if you want to play in the NHL, here is your opportunity. Especially, Saad since he is a late birth date. He could play 3 years in the league before his draft year. With that the scouts will be very familiar with him and his progress. As a player you want to get to the NHL as quick as possible because the sooner you get there the sooner you get to free agency status and the chance to make real money. Saad will develop quicker here than playing another year in Midget and Parker will develop quicker here than playing college hockey (DIV II?) beginning in 3 years.

Congrats to Adam on being drafted. Florida appears to be into rebuilding with the trade of longtime captain Oli Jokiinen, so perhaps this is a good team for him. Also we know that the new coach (Peter DeBoer) has seen a lot of him, and he must have had plenty of input.
dj--I believe Sudbury has the #1 pick in the Import Draft this year, so start deciding who to trade!! There are apparently the usual worries about a Russian player going back to Russia, but if Filatov makes it through a winter in Sudbury, he is definitely serious about staying. He is a gem for sure, and if he does make it to the O, we should have mixed feelings--we'll only see him twice a year (good news) but we'll only see him twice a year (bad news)
