Signing of first rounders is up to 12/20 (or 12/19 if you count the almost-certain-not-to-report Fowler. Time grows short. Freakin' KINGSTON signed their draft picks today. KINGSTON!!!!!! C'mon, Saginaw.............this is getting to be a bad joke.

that's too bad...sounds like he must want to head for the NCAA after all...hopefully he'll end up at Notre Dame after doing Indiana USHL! I see that plymouth's 2nd rounder (dalpe) is going NCAA as well (ohio st.)

Comrie signed with the USHL after being drafted by the Spirit and he ended up in Saginaw as well. Same for Walch.
Just because a player signs in the USHL at age 16 it doesn't mean he's not eventually going to play in Saginaw.
What seems to alarm people is that when a high pick doesn't report and goes to the USHL that he's gone for good.
Comrie was a 9th rounder and Walch was a 5th rounder which elicted little discussion or controversy over the last two years.
They are both in Saginaw now after a year in the USHL.
I'm willing to bet that Parker will follow the same path.

Not the point, ig2. What alarms people is that both our top 2 picks appear likely not to be in Saginaw THIS year. You said it yourself--Comrie was a 9th rounder--he was expected to go the USHL route--and Walch was a 5th rounder who last year didn't make the team. Certainly you are correct in that they may (or may not) play in Saginaw eventually. But high draft picks should not be waltzing off to the USHL for their first year of play. Once again--it was the responsibility of the people drafting and scouting to do their homework and draft accordingly.

2,
Walch and Comrie went to the USHL without making a committment to a college. Parker has made a committment to college, in fact even before the draft. Parker could still be here at some point, however he looks really likely to go to college.

Walch didn't even come to camp last year did he? How can he "not make the team" if he didn't even report.
Plymouth has had two "high draft picks waltz off to the USHL" in Petrecki and now apparently Dalpe as well.

From another thread, but it bears repeating:
"Not to mention, it's not a valid comparison to compare Kitchener drafting Cam Fowler or Plymouth drafting Nick Petricki to Saginaw's scenario.
Kitchener & Plymouth: rock-solid, well-reputed, awesome places to play OHL hockey
Saginaw: to be kind, "not so much"
The Spirit have always been careful before with this. Costa drafted Patrick McNeill KNOWING he would commit. Was Bobby Ryan rated higher on the Spirit's list? Sure he was. But a bad team at the time like Saginaw couldn't not having McNeill not show up. And a mediocre to below-average team like Saginaw might be this year can't either. You don't play Russian Roulette with your 1st AND 2nd round picks when you're an average team. You can afford to when you're hosting the Memorial Cup (Kitchener), stacked to the gills with talent like Plymouth was when they drafted Petrecki, and a consensus conference favorite or co-favorite like Windsor will be this year."
The Londons, the Kitcheners, and to a slightly lesser extent, the Plymouths and Windsors of this world can take flyers on picks for the above reasons. Saginaw is not now, nor have they ever been during their short existence, in a position to afford that. As for Walsh--obviously he didn't make the team when he didn't show. I think we might be trading semantics on that one. He'll make it this year. The Spirit are going to need every ticket sale they can get..........

The signing list has been updated. 5 teams have not signed their first round pick. This includes Windsor's Cam Fowler, who is unlikely to sign, since he didn't sign with Kitchener as a first round pick, and is allegedly firmly committed to UND. So, besides the Spirit, 3 other teams have not signed their first round pick. The talk is that all 3 are likely to sign this week or next.

Not the point, ig2. What alarms people is that both our top 2 picks appear likely not to be in Saginaw THIS year. Just for the record, I'm not the least bit alarmed, I'm not the least bit concerned, I'm not the least bit panicked and I will guarantee that this year's team will be better than last year's team. Now how about that for a prediction.

I recall the same conversation last year revolved around a 15-win season "at best" and I think the Spirit more than doubled that prognostication.
My prediction is that both Euros and Saad will be in the lineup opening night.
