Our official website doesn't even say anything about training camp. I love how other teams' camp rosters are either on the NOOF or their websites. I guess I'm saying nobody tells us anything, SSF. Unless we read it from another team's fans on the NOOF..............

Unless we read it from another team's fans on the NOOF.............. The Spirit website is one of the WORST in the OHL for giving information out. I can't tell if it is incompetence or simply being too guarded. Not that the organization ever tries to spin anything, but even updates on alumni are done on most other websites. Maybe they don't have the people involved, and it doesn't help that their media relations director (albeit a friendly young chap) doesn't know a hockey puck from an ice cream cone. It can't help, put it that way.

bp--Pretty bad. Gutsy, but pretty bad. I don't think anything I said was either bad or gutsy. Perhaps you can shed some light on what you meant.

Not the point, ig2. What alarms people is that both our top 2 picks appear likely not to be in Saginaw THIS year. Just for the record, I'm not the least bit alarmed, I'm not the least bit concerned, I'm not the least bit panicked and I will guarantee that this year's team will be better than last year's team. Now how about that for a prediction. You asked. I told you............................

Gotta love a good guarantee. What do I get if the guarantee doesn't come through (like many car warranties)?
1. Is this referencing that they'll have more than 76 points or they'll actually win a playoff game?
I think they'll be a 56-58 point team - be the 8th seed and somehow win one playoff game. Because I think Sarnia and the Soo and possibly Owen Sound might be not very good at all either. Not sure that's cause for celebration for a franchise with the worst winning percentage and most hired and fired executives in the West since they entered the league.

Once again, I must ask, what specifically do you find bad and what specifically do you find gutsy? I don't need anybody to just quote to me what I wrote. I know what I wrote. I just simply do not understand your post and was asking for clarification.
It would appear that Newguy would like some clarification about what I mean by "better", so here goes. First of all, I could care less about total points. They don't mean much, it's how you finish in relation to the other teams that matters most. So, points asside, I am telling you that Saginaw will finish no lower than 6th in the Western Conference. Last season they finished 7th so 6th is better. Also, last season the Spirit failed to win a single playoff game. So you are correct that one win would be better but I am going to say that this season not only do they win a playoff game, but they will, for the first time, win a playoff series.
One more thing, what I think is cause for celebration is the fact that I will soon be able to go down to the Dow Event Center and watch a very exciting brand of hockey. And that is better than watching on tv or not having a team to watch at all.
No, now that I think about it, there is one more thing. Just because I don't choose to go down the anti-Garber, anti-Goslin, anti-Edwards, anti-Saginaw, anti-Spirit trail that many of you folks seem to enjoy traveling, doesn't make me blind, doesn't mean I drink the cool-aid and doesn't mean that I don't know what I'm talking about. I for one, am going really enjoy re-visiting this thread in March. Peace.

Unless we read it from another team's fans on the NOOF.............. A completely unfair statement to the web editors. I would assume PR people only post "news" when provided it by hockey operations. My assumption is that the PR Dept. probably hasn't been provided with any "new news" regarding camp.

And that is better than watching on tv or not having a team to watch at all. I completely agree. I really don't care if our draft picks from this year show up this year or next. A team doesn't make or break a season based on 1 or 2 16 year olds. The only thing I care about is that I can watch a team go out there and put forth a great effort every night. The hard work and the type of play that Watson got out of those players day in and day out last year was great to see and I am sure that type of work ethics will continue.

I am with BP here - I am getting tired of the stinking anti-Saginaw posts on here. Good Lord, maybe some of you should start up a new message board titled "Why I like to piss & moan about Saginaw hockey so much yet still consider myself a fan". Geez. You consider yourself FANS???

Good Lord, maybe some of you should start up a new message board titled "Why I like to piss & moan about Saginaw hockey so much yet still consider myself a fan". Geez. You consider yourself FANS??? FANS are entitled to complain when the product from a win-loss perspective is sub-standard. After six years, the hockey's been entertaining at times and the 05-06 was real fun, but the results have been generally way below standards for a league that is quite cyclical. Look at Windsor. We beat them all over the ice 2 seasons ago and this year, they'll contend for the league title. Why not us? Easy answer. And you all know what it is. Some choose to cheerlead, some choose to criticize. It's all part of being a fan. I'm not there booing these kids and I'm not there heckling them. I pull like crazy for them. It's not their fault the organization's been a picture of dysfunction for over a half-decade now and is probably further away from contending and having a gameplan than they ever have been. At least in 2002 and 2003, the plan was -- get high picks, and keep only players who want to be here. Now there's not even that. If you're the moderator, what kind of message are you sending (and I appreciate your hard work, by the way) that being blindly positive towards the team somehow makes you more of a fan than if you're objective? Wow.

bp--this was pretty simple. I did not mean it to get so involved. You said--"How's that for a prediction" and I said "Pretty bad. Gutsy, but pretty bad". ie I like your optimism, but do not agree w/ the prediction. OK?
igive2--Our web site is awful. But nowhere did I blame the web editors. If they aren't given news to put in it (Or to be fair, there should be someone working to keep news in it current) the greatest design and execution in the world won't help.
SGF--You bet I consider myself a fan. And that gives me every right to critique player and management performance on this site, unless I get personal about it, and I haven't done that anywhere. I have 4 season tickets, I almost never miss a home game, and I make my share of road games. Feel free to ask the unfortunate people who sit by me if they think I am a fan. If they can hear you talking............Bottom line--there have been a few fun times w/ this team, and I'll continue to support it. But there have been management actions that have been all over the map lately, and I'll continue to say that, too.

bp--this was pretty simple. I did not mean it to get so involved. You said--"How's that for a prediction" and I said "Pretty bad. Gutsy, but pretty bad". ie I like your optimism, but do not agree w/ the prediction. OK? Fair enough, I accept your explanation. I do, however, respectfully disagree with your description of my prediction. To my way of thinking a "bad" prediction is one that has no chance of coming true. Now if I had said that I predict Hillary Clinton would be the next president, that would have been a bad prediction. I think my prediction is a good one for one reason and one reason only, Todd Watson. I can't imagine Todd having a team that is not as good as last year's. The problem I see on this board is that there are so many folks just freaking out because of who won't be here without any real good discussion about who will be. There are going to be players on this team nobody has even mentioned that by year's end just might get voted "fan favorite". Think Tyler Murovich. How can I say this with such confidence? It's simple, because it happens every year. There is no reason, or evidence available, to think this year will be any different. Now is my prediction "gutsy"? I guess that's a matter of opinion. Perhaps the part about winning a playoff series would qualify since I am going with my gut on that one. So I guess, as I look at it, it might be a littly gutsy. That said, I can tell you there is no doubt in my mind that this year's Spirit team is going to be way better than most on the board have predicted. That's a pretty safe bet for those of you who like to wager. Put some money down as I am sure you will find plenty of suckers, er I mean takers on this board. Peace.

It's August. Folks, lets wait and see what happens with this club first.
Now, I see why people feel the way they do because the Spirit have done "nothing" substantial in the off-season. But, when does making a big splash in the off-season lead to success? Look at the Tigers. Everyone thought they were the absolute best team once they acquired Cabrera and Willis and they were a lock for the World Series. THEY STINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now look at the Tampa Rays. Did they do anything substantial in the off-season? Nope. But they have the best record in the American League.
So, what a team does in the off-season is no indication of what they will do once the season starts. I understand the pessimism, but I don't like it. But, this is what "fans" do. I think it shows great enthusiasm for the team, albeit negative. But as I said before, the players who are going to play for this team are disrespected when everyone piles on before the season even starts.
