This is nit-picky. But I hate that it is on the Friday of Labor Day weekend. With a houseful of company, no way I get to go. Bummer. Has a schedule of the rest of the week of camp been released?

Anyone have comments about tonight's Blue-White scrimmage?? Thanks much from the goof half way across the world!! Jack scored twice, both of the imports scored and looked good doing it. Typical blue and white game. Some guys looked ready to play, some didn't. Next weekend's pre-season game vs the Soo should be more telling. Good to see some of the regulars in the stands. Even Jan Mursak was there. Good to have hockey back. More later.

Thanks BP!! Someone commented in another thread that Ryan Daniels did not report and is home awaiting a trade. Who were the goaltenders besides Pasquale and how did they look??
Did anyone else stand out offensively besides Jaaaaack and the new boys (imports)??
Anyone stand out among the d-men??
Who specifically didn't look ready to play?? I don't think that will sit well with Coach Watson.

Any comments about Jack Combs skating?? Knowing what a hard worker Jack is, I have to believe he really focused on that aspect of his game during the off season.

Any comments about Jack Combs skating?? Knowing what a hard worker Jack is, I have to believe he really focused on that aspect of his game during the off season. Jack wasn't in full on game mode. Looked to me like he was just having fun with the younger players. Firing off his quick shots and spin moves. Skating didn't look much different to me. There were a few, what I would call, surprise absences from last year's team: Zane Neily, Brendon Taylor, Brad Smith and Joseph Lepera. Ryan Daniels also not here but not so much a surprise. Both imports looked good although Jakub Svoboda was clearly the better of the two. Of course he should be since he is older. There were 12 goals scored and it was hard to track who scored all of the goals because there was no announcements at the game. Many of the goals were chip ins with lots of bodies around the net. I know Chris Chappell scored first. Kain Allicock also had a goal. My newcomer of the game goes to Barry Sanderson. He has a quick first step and reminds me alot of Tyler Murovich. Folks should find him fun to watch play. Goalies, in addition to Eddie, were Colin Greeley from this year's draft and Brian Robbins from last year's draft. Not sure why Lapera wasn't there. Hard to tell much from this "game". I don't think you get a good gauge because it takes on more of a team scrimmage look. The better test will be next weekend's game vs the Soo. But hey, they are back on the ice and that's a good thing. Peace.

Thanks (again) BP!! Looking forward to some others takes on the scrimmage. Wish I could have been there but a previous committment (uh, work in Shanghai) prevented me from showing my face. I am hoping if the stars align correctly that I will be able to make a surprise visit to "The Herbie" at least once this season. Keep your fingers crossed.

Lepera has an ACL or MCL problem and is hopefully going to be able to resume playing in a couple of weeks, so we will be looking at one of the new tenders to see some action until Lepera gets back.
Glad to see Jordan Paton is back and looks as good as he did in the camp last year.
Heard Bendan Taylor has given up and will play in Oakville this year.
Thought that the tempo was pretty good but definitely not OHL speed yet.
The two imports scored but I noticed that they were doing the little things too- like laying down to block shots and busting their butts to get back to help out in their own end. Both got hit fairly hard and did not miss a step.
The defense chipped in with some goals as Crawford and Comrie both scored and Brodie set up a couple nice goals. Joe Underwood looks like he wants to join the offense this year as well. All four of these 90's look alot more confident this year than last year, should be fun to watch this year.
Chris Breen is back and he is not any smaller than when he left last year. Cody Sol is back and looks decent- good shot.
Walch and Trecapelli look like they will be decent Dmen.
Combs was playing out there.
Chappell and Swarz both had chances to score but could not find the back of the net.
Jason McDonough is back and he has gained substantial mass over the summer.
Kain Allicock scored once and had a couple of other chances. He would talk to whoever was lined up with him prior to dropping the puck and it was usually a younger player and they would basically stay away from him the whole shift. Hopefully Kain will get a chance to prove that he has a touch around the net as well as with his fists this year.
Joe Plecatis looks good again.
Sanderson looks like a Murovich clone, both not overly big but both look like they will go through a wall to do their job- never quit.
Sloan Stewart looks like he could be a possible pick.
New draftees- Dylan Impens (3rd round pick ) is not afraid to hit or get hit, makes the plays that need to be made ie; getting puck out of own end and making good first pass.
Braun ( 4th round pick ) moves puck well and sees the ice well, not sure where he would fit in with all the Dmen already signed.
Flemington- big boy moves the puck fairly well but needs to improve his skating.
#16 Blue scored a couple goals- not sure what his name is but always was pressuring and on the puck all the time.

"Heard Brendan Taylor has given up and will play in Oakville this year."
Great -- makes that abortion of a trade with Belleville last year look even more brilliant by Edwards. Even his biggest defenders can't possibly suggest he got fair value for Williams and Mursak. Not when there were other teams eager to part with 2nd round picks to get those two.
Belleville paid 2 3rd round picks spread out over three drafts and a goalie who was their #2 for this coming year anyway, behind Mike Murphy for two players who helped them get to Game 7 of the OHL Finals.
George Burnett did a mean and nasty one to Don Edwards in this particular occurence. Then again, Edwards famously last year accepted LESS for Asselin from Oshawa than he had been offered two days earlier from Niagara, but he FORGOT what the Niagara offer was because he hadn't written it down.
But I'm sure he'll do fine this year. Poor Todd Watson.

Overall I think this group of guys came to camp ready to compete. I agree with everyone else Eros look good and Jack was having fun out there. I thought Jordon Patton skated real well seems to always be around the puck. The other player I noticed quite a bit was John Kavanaugh moved the puck real well and was not afraid to go into the corners. Just my opinion but I thought the best player on the ice was Jordon Szwarz no goals but he was all over the place setting up plays and really seemed to be hustling. I for one am looking forward to a good season of exiting hockey win, lose or overtime loss. GO SPIRIT!!!

Personally newguy doesn't bother me. I like how when management screws up he calls them on it. I'm sure that when they do something great that he will praise them also... Besides he has some of the best inside knowledge here..

So it was a GOOD trade?
You get your talking points straight from Garber and Goslin. It's embarrassing. I hope they drop by your seats regularly this year so they can let you have your tongue back once in a while.
Why don't you tell me what you thought of the trade then? And now? Talk about "old".
Edwards did a nice job finding Brad Smith and bringing Underwood in from Guelph. I give him credit for those pickups. But Murovich was coming anyway -- for Mancini, Twohey, Ferguson, Edwards, BP Fox, whomever. And so was Comrie. If anyone deserves credit for those guys playing they way they did, it's Todd Watson. Edwards has done more harm than good to what was here before he got here. Try and deny it.
And no one can deny this:
Todd Watson HATES HATES HATES Don Edwards with a passion. More than you could possibly imagine. So next time you see your favorite head coach, ask him why. He'll have loads of good reasons.
