I see where the Spirit have one of those new Sicks & Pucks sessions for this morning beginning at 8 am. For $20 you get to skate and hang with the boys, or whatever. So let me get this right, the team will return to town at about what, around 2:30 am to only be back for this 8 am nonsense?

This game left me speechless. What a terrible effort by us, I think this is a very good example of how were going to be playing against a good team. Don't shoot the messanger but goaltending killed us. Last year games against SSM were always good, even though we lost most of them they were usually pretty close. But lets be serious 6 goals on 19 shots..19 shots?? And 3 goals on 7 shots in the 1st period alone! Last year it seemed like they had at least 30-40 shots a game on us if not more.. So I'm going to give a huge thank you to Ryan Daniels, you kept us in a ton of games and I wish you only the best in the future...however I wish that future was one more year with Saginaw.
Great choice in Pasquale, Edwards. The other teams have most of their "ammo" back and guess what we don't. This is going to be a long season, especially against SSM.
Sorry I'm done venting..

I don't care if he MEANT any harm. Why is ignorance and classlessness excused if "they didn't mean it" in this day and age? "I didn't mean any harm" is basically the "I'm so ignorant and stupid, I wouldn't know any better than to reference a subject in history so painful and heartbreaking to millions of people". Wrong is wrong. Right is right. And if he had referenced 9/11 or the Holocaust, you wouldn't let him off the hook, and you know it. Not even close to the same thing. I don't know what has you so angry and prompting you to write so harshly. If the poster had referenced D-day would that have been in poor taste? Are you just trying to stir up something?

thanks for the fight recap. good to see allicock could hold his own with argueably the toughest guy in the league. Peluso jabbed Allicock in the chest coming on to the ice and then they both dropped their gloves. Peluso getting the extra two minutes in the fight. Allicock did well and held his own. Allicock gave one or two in the beginning and just tried to hold Peluso the rest of the way. I don't believe Peluso got to throw much as Kain really held his arms tight. Honestly and probably surprising I may have to give this one a draw but give the Kainer a load of respect for this one. Team was down 3 - 0 before the fight and while Allicock was in the box came back with two more goals to make it 3-2. Way to take one for the team Kain.

First off, the team sounded like it was second to a lot of pucks, lost a lot of battles...does the word TIRED factor in. From what I know - the boys haven't been given a day off so far - since the start of camp.
To have players travel 4.5 hours to the Sault - cross the border - PLAY - return and get to bed at 4 and have to be back at the rink for a stick-puck session - where as I understand it - the coach gets the proceeds....welll - is it just me - or will this lead to a fatigue factor as the season goes on.
I wouldn't shoot Eddie the Eagle just yet - he is still learning his craft. Give him 20 games as a full fledge starter.
As the rumor goes, we could have either had Mavric Parks, Michael Hutchinson or a former Oakville Jr. A Goalie - Hoyle whose rights we own - but instead WENT after PASQUALE because he was the top rated goalie of the bunch. As far as I know - Hutchinson was drafted in the 3rd Rd. of the NHL draft this year, Parks is playing well enough to be a starter in Kingston - and Hoyle - whom we traded I believe a 5th round pick too - is playing in the USHL and was not drafted.
In addition, I wouldn't raise our expectations for the team this year....take away Mursak, McDonough, Zaborsky, Combs (for now) Asselin, Sinfield, Daniels and those are MASSIVE graduate loses - that the results to expect this year are going to be much like this game....

Well here's someone elses view of the fight ... Peeat 13 fight reviews
19 min ago Anthony Peluso narrow win Fun 7 Peluso was heading to the bench as Allicock was coming off the bench ( for a change after the whistle.) , Peluso gave Allicock a little drip , he gets up and goes after Peluso , the skate towards centre ice before Peluso drops then followed by Allicock , both linesmen let em go.
They get together , both throw a few with both player connecting , Peluso then pulls off Allicocks helmet and takes his own off (with the spin of the helmet on the ice by the way). Allicock holds his own all fight , throwing a couple at Peluso , the fight begins to die down , Peluso tries to trip Allicock down but won't happen , So Peluso continues to throw a few more , at this time Allicock looked like he gave up , hence the reason I give Peluso the narrow win because he continued throwing and connecting.
Allicock held his own I was very happy to see that , this was a good fight.

Wow now, I didn't expect anyone to take offense to that comment, nor did I want to. Next time I will better word it I guess. And ask any spirit fan on here and they know what class us greyhound fans have so don't get an overall thought just from some little thing I posted.

If these kids need a day off after a short training camp and 4 games we should scrap the whole season and drop out of the league. Think back to when you were 16-20, if you're anything like I was, I could play a game and especially if we lost, be ready to get right back out there and play again. When i coached basketball, we'd have 2-3 games per week and practice the rest of the days and we'd do it November-March...i was exhausted but the kids weren't.
Depending on the needs of teams drafting this year, Pasquale should be a 1st rounder and at worst a 2nd rounder in the NHL Draft.

In response to Spiritgirl and topphat's post about goaltending.
Goals all depend on scoring chances and with Daniels gone and most of the Soo's top guns from last year it does leave you wondering about the current goaltending situation, from a statistical point of view. After all, that is the first team the Spirit have played this season with their full line up, So that would leave me scratching my head a little bit as well and wondering if it was just one bad game or if there is more to come. Remember the Spirit also had alot of travel and the Soo was just waiting for them ready at home.
You cant give Pasquale 20 games as a starter. That is nearly 1/3 of the season. He needs to be ready now, bottom line.
And Kudos to Allicock. 3 fights in 4 games. Taking on Peluso is a daunting challenge and it sounds like he was almost looking for it. Keep it up Kain!

Pasquale a 1st or 2nd rd NHL pick? I think you might be the only person on the planet to think that. Look back at history and see which goalies were taken that high in the NHL draft. Do you really think he has that type of ability?

DJ - .. Pasquale wont be a first or second rounder either
Just because Edwards says hes the best doesnt mean hes actually the best. Have a look around the CHL and NCAA and Europe and USHL .. factor all those goalies in and I think youll change your opinion.
I could be wrong though but just a hunch.

you guys are right. pasquale isn't great by any means. but also know he is still young and can and will get better. that is a factor you have to look into when grading talent. you cannot just go by what you see at this moment.

I'm just going by what the guy from Central Scouting says, not the Spirit brass. I also said "depending on need" at the beginning of my comment, I don't follow each NHL team close enough to know their goaltending situations. If there are a number of teams with bare cupboards as far as goalies, it would not surprise me to see him go that high...remember, unless you are one of those ELITE players you're being drafted on POTENTIAL which Eddie has a ton of. Here are the quotes which I believe were posted somewhere on this board previously: EDIT: does anyone think Corrente is a first rounder? I sure don't...it's an imperfect science. www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=382228Edward Pasquale, Saginaw -- The second-year goaltender split last season between Belleville and the Spirit after being traded in December. After playing just 10 games for the Bulls, he was 8-5 with a 3.54 goals-against average in 13 games with Saginaw. With Ryan Daniels' departure, Pasquale enters this season as the Spirit's No. 1 netminder. "He's going to be one of the top goalies this year," said Central Scouting's Al Jensen. "I think if he was eligible last year he would have been drafted. He's very poised and confident. I like his strength in the net. He reads the play very well. This kid is going to be a really good goalie down the road. He has that good goalie sense in him."

Do you really think he has that type of ability? Let me see. Last night was Pasquale's 44th game in the OHL and had a rough night. I dug through the OHL site and Steve Mason's 44th game in the OHL saw him get bombed 7-2 by the Plymouth Whalers on December 7th, 2006. Give it a rest people. Even the best goalies in this league have their share of rough nights! And for God sake, its September 27th!

The Devils still do. He's their Number 2 prospect, and I've seen a couple of articles indicating he'd be #1 if not for missing so much time w/ injury and--the old Corrente bugaboo--suspensions. Looking at NJ's system, I would actually not be surprised if he made the team out of camp.
