The Spirit have issues for next weekend right now.
It is apparent that Watson does not confidence in Lepera, and with three-in-three next weekend, all on the road, Pasquale cannot play all three.
We could be down three defensemen for next weekend as well, with Walch (injured), Brodie (injured), and Sol (suspended) all potentially missing the games. You can't play with 4 D all weekend, so we need reinforcements.
So, as the subject says, where do we go from here? Trades, call-ups, free agents. Not sure how many player cards we have left, but we need help right now.

I'm not saying that I agree with this approach, but Pasquale played all three games (in 3 days) last weekend and won them all. So we may see him in all 3 again. What's wrong w/ Brodie? Any chance Walsh can go next weekend? How ironic that we have too many D, trade Breen, and two weeks later could be short. Sometimes you really do get the feeling that the Spirit team got onto the hockey gods' wrong side!!!!

Ironic is right! Let's also not forget that we had a great opportunity to strengthen our future at D, but we obviuosly blew it. Now were in a pickle and need some ofthose guys, but our prospects have made alternate arrangements.

I don't know what's wrog with Brodie exactly, but he took a HARD check towards the end of Saturdays game and I think there is a permanent impression of his face in the glass. I believe he went back to the bench, but was bleeding and went off the ice before play resumed. I don't remember seeing the trainer go with him though, so I don't know the extent of injury.
Looking for a trade to fill the defense problem though would be kind of silly, in my opinion. We didn't need that extra defenseman long-term, that's why we traded Breen. Is there a chance that a forward could switch to defense for the time being? Didn't we have someone in the past that did that? He played whichever position was needed? Being that versatile would make him much more valuable to the team.

Any chance Walsh can go next weekend? I was told after the game Friday that Walch will probably be ready to go for this weekend. He had a concussion and it will depend on how he's feeling...he'll be cleared to play if the concussion symptoms are at a good or manageable level. Never want to mess with concussions but i would bet he'll be in the lineup at least for the last 2 of 3.

Thanks, dj. Good point, new fan. Last year it was Oglivie that could go back and forth between D and offense as needed. Probably if we have someone like that it will be a defenseman, which would kinda defeat the purpose. If Walsh is able to go at least the last two games, the guys could hopefully suck it up against Erie like they did last night. Not an ideal situation, but hey, that's life. If we are really desparate, Erie put a guy on waivers last week--Frank Grzczeniak (even though I live in a a Polish community, I am certain that is spelled wrong) But he comes with some serious baggage, most of which dangles from his head............and I'm not sure we need a long term answer anyway, as newfan77 already pointed out.

Hey Sonny Crockett, even Tubbs can probsbly figure this out!
No doubt, we do have 4 great D this year, but we need 6. Now that the chips are down with injuries, trades, and suspensions, (and the lack of vision by signing JR B Standout Trecapelli) we are finding ourselves short on the depth chart. Opportunity to integrate our 1992 drafted D men into the system have passed.
Next year iwill be another story. The big 4 or D will be gone next year, and the cupboard will be empty, with no 1992 talent to call on with OHL experience.
For some SS stands for Saginaw Spirit, for me is stands for Short Sighted!

Maestro
Explain to me why none of the 4 D will be back next year.
They are all 1990 birthyear so they will be only 19 so I would be willing to bet that all 4 will be back next year.
Having a 1992 Dman sitting in the stands does not help him develop or the team as far as that goes.
Watson should get one or two signed so they could be used in 9 or 10 games like they did last year with Sol and Brodie the year before.
Injuries are something nobody can predict so it would be good insurance to have a 1992 that can fill in when needed.

I would imagine that Walsh is back by the weekend. Sol really blew it last week. With Walsh out and a chance to take a regular shift he makes one of the dumber plays ever and will miss at least 2 games. I would not say the Spirit have 4 great D. I think Comrie has been pretty bad so far this year.

No doubt, we do have 4 great D this year, but we need 6. How many teams in the OHL have 6 great defensemen as per your request? My guess would be zero. We could have kept Breen who was pretty good but then we wouldn't have Skellet who I think is really good. It's a double edged sword and there's usually only 1 or 2 teams that stick out above the rest on O and D. We had it during the Pyatt/Bass/OMarra/McNeill/etc. year but unfortunately it didn't pan out. Also, I had to google Sonny Crockett to get your opening line. I said it before here, truthfully, i've never viewed a second of any Miami Vice episode or movie...it's just an alter-ego ;D

According to Kisil on the radio show, Walch is hoping to get clearance to play this weekend. Brodie is going to miss probably two weeks with mouth damage which required some surgery to repair. Sol is suspended through Friday night and should play the remaining games this weekend. He mentioned a forward stepping back and playing defense. I think Combs did it last year. He also mentioned some forwards are dinged up and are day-to-day.
Can't the drafted players who are outside rounds 1 & 2 play in 9 games before Saginaw burns a card on them? Does that mean that they do not have to be signed by the club in order to play in those games? I don't remember seeing reports that previous "floating affiliates" were actually signed by the club (Stewart, Smee, etc.). Player cards were not burned on these players.

Would someone enlighted me-why was Sol suspended. I missed Friday's game. I am not seeing anything about the suspension on the OHL website. Being short some players happens to all clubs sometime during the season. We will be short players during the World Jr.'s too. Having 92 D's on the team would not solve this problem. If we had them on the roster, other players would be off, so we would still be short. It appears to me that we have some fans that are not exactly happy with Trecapelli being on the team. The Spirit website list his +/- at 0. Not great, but not bad either. Comrie, Crawford, Underwood,Trecapelli, and injured Walch make five. Sol comes back to make six. I think we can survive with six defensemen for a weekend.

ti some fans won't be happy no matter what the team does. They say we should be getting the draftees some experience but in the same post they don't want trecapelli on the ice getting experience. You can never win for losing with some people.
