Something to watch in the coming days is if Jesse Graham signs a contract with the New York Islanders or Cody Payne signs with the Dallas Stars. Both have until June 1st to be signed by their NHL teams or they re-enter the 2014 NHL Draft. Jesse Graham just signed his entry level contract today and apparently Cody Payne will not be signed by the Stars. No suprise about either. Congrats Jesse.

Why am I not surprised at Sadowy's performance?

I like this signing. On a somewhat related note: fellow prospects Christian Rajic and Jakson Bales will both be up full time with Oakville of the OJHL this year.

The Vancouver Canucks announced the hiring of Willie DesJardins as their new head coach today. This is notable to Spirit fans because of the assistant coach he is expected to take with him from the Calder Cup champion Texas Stars: Doug Lidster. Long time fans will remember that Lidster was bounced almost as fast as he was hired here, due to the criminal offense of poking Coach-Killer Mike Brown in the chest during a disagreement. Good to see Lidster--who I always thought had the makings of a good coach--landed on his feet, as opposed to Brown, who after spending parts of a couple of seasons with the Providence Bruins bounced around the lower levels of pro hockey and closed out his career a couple of years ago in Australia.

Strange that the only coach they had that ever advanced in coaching is the one they fired right away. What a mess that was. Real Keystone Cops affair.

I read some scuttlebutt today on a random hockey board that Felhaber is not going to report to Saginaw. I don't know if I'm in the minority but I actually think this is a good thing. We'll get an additional 1st rounder next year and we'll also be able to trade him to where he wants to go and get players and/or picks for him. As I've said before, I don't think we're going to be very good this year and grabbing 2 1st rounders next year will be very beneficial for us in the long run.

If he does not report, it is a good thing. Wow. Then lets use the first pick every year on guys who won't report so the team can really improve. Ask the Spirit staff if it is a good thing if he does not report.

Ask the Spirit staff if it is a good thing if he does not report. While Felhaber possible not reporting is not an ideal situation, I'm glad we finally are drafting legitimate first round talents the last two years. Addison, Kea, and Moutrey will be/were/are fine players, but none of them should have had a first round pick used on them.

It's exactly why the new rules were put in place. The agents told teams that the players wouldn't report and they slid down the draft and the rich got richer. Now, kids can still say they will only report to say London and London will have to give something up for them AND the OHL will give the team an additional first round pick. That's a big cost for even a team who's loaded and it may end up getting a kid to report if they really want to play OHL and not an American league.

Ok, I get it now, They should use one of their two 1st rd picks to pick someone that will not report so the next year they get two picks again and do it every year. Genius.
