ok, ive tried to be fair to this guy. i figured maybe some of you are right. give fic a couple weeks, see how he is then. my current opinion? ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. this guy is the most boring person to listen to in any sport period. again this is nothing personal. ive seen him before and he is nice so this isnt me trying to be mean. im gonna be straight up with you people. i went around asking strangers what they thought about him. you know what the overall response was? ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. they all thought he was boring, that he speaks to slow and generally sounds like he is reading a story to a bunch of kindergartners. he needs to be replaced. i know there has to be better broadcasters out there who have more zest. yeah, yeah, he has 30 years of experience. he sounds like hes been up for thirty years straight and is about to fall over in the broadcasting booth. im thinking about talking to management because i guarantee you there wasnt much effort put forth in finding someone, and i know if management sits down and puts their heads together they can find someone better. you know this guy is bad when i had old ladies tell me he was boring. part of the appeal of radio is that maybe someone who hasnt seen a game might listen on the radio, get excited and want to go see one. that will not happen with this guy calling games.

Fic I can live with.
I'm more annoyed with poor grammar (sentence structure, capitalization, etc).

I agree with mievl's post. I'm sorry, I've also given this guy a chance. I was excited when it was announced we were getting an experienced broadcaster, but I refuse to listen to the games anymore.
I have turned the game on for several people over the past couple weeks, and every time it is the same response: Hysterical laughter, followed by the person saying, in disbelief, "this is a joke, right?" You cannot get an idea of what is going on because the broadcast is so terrible. I don't enjoy the Loons broadcasts because I thought that guy was boring, but I would take him over Fic any day. The Spirit are LOSING fans on the radio because of this guy. I cannot imagine anyone but a diehard actually listening to this for more than five minutes. Heck, I am a diehard, and I won't listen to it.
I'm sorry, I have not met Fic, but I am sure he is a great person, and quite possibly the guy for the media relations position or whatever it was...but he is NOT our guy for the radio broadcast. We need to e-mail/call/contact the Spirit and let them know that this simply is not working out.
Say what you want, "be glad you HAVE a radio broadcast," but I can't be glad, because I can't stand listening to it. Fortunately I can go to most home-games, so the only ones I have to miss are the away...but I will be missing them, until we have a better play by play guy. Until then I'll keep checking the score on my cell-phone throughout the night.

I used to look foreward to listening to the away games and the post game show, but neither me or my girlfriend can stand to listen to this guy for even 2-3 minutes anymore. I hope they do something soon.

Sounds like a couple people have a case of the Mondays. Typically I enjoy your posts and have a similar opinion. I have not, however, been able to figure out what this has to do with this post. I bet you do a survey, hey, put it up on the Spirit website, and the majority of the people will agree with those of us who say Fic is doing a terrible job. Maybe we were spoiled by Brady, I don't know, but this guy is impossible to listen to. I cannot listen when I am driving because a) The amount of concentration I have to put into figuring out what in the world this guy is trying to say takes away from my driving ability, and b) the chances of me falling asleep at the wheel are greatly increased by having Joe FM tuned in during a Spirit broadcast. And I feel my opinion, at least in this case, is the opinion of the majority. Prove me wrong.

don and aj--I get it (without the links) but I think you're trivializing a valid post.
I was excited when I heard"30 years experience" etc. and I originally posted to wait and give Fic a chance. I have no doubt he is a great guy from everything I've heard. But I have gone from someone who never missed a broadcast, to someone who checks the score on-line. I can't believe this is what the Spirit brass are looking for..............

Exactly, I've seen Office Space. But this is a valid post and several people, and again I say I believe the majority, don't think Fic is The Guy.

I was just kidding around in my post. I appreciate reading others opinions and thoughts, as we are all entitled to our own.
Personally, I am neutral towards Fic. I don't necessarily like nor dislike his style. I have met him and he is a very nice guy. But if it really bothers some people, which it seems like it has, then feel free to e-mail the Spirit with your thoughts or fill out a comment card at the Guest Services booth at one of the upcoming home games.
Fic not only does play-by-play but has lots of other duties within the organization as well, so I can assure you he probably won't be going anywhere anytime soon. So whether or not you like or dislike his style, we're all going to have to accept it. There really isn't any other explanation as far as I'm concerned.
All in my opinion.

im just glad im not the only one who notices this about fic. oh and by the way, i dont come here worrying about my spelling or grammar. when im writing something important, then i worry about that, this is a forum i come to for fun. if im doing a resume, then yeah ill bust out the good grammar, punctuations, the whole nine yards. i dont feel the need to do that here.

I have to say that I have been one of Fic's biggest supporters on here, but I do not know if he is the right fit in Saginaw. Personally, I don't entirely mind his call of the games. Yes, you have to pay attention a bit more closely because he does tent to get a little long winded, but I can follow along. But that said, I do think that I am in the minority here. Unfortunately I have not heard much as far as positive responses go. I can take him or leave him. I do like him, but that does not mean that I would not necessarily like someone else, either.

I see people are finally getting what I was saying when this guy first started a few weeks back.
He' extremely difficult to listen to and this week, I didn't listen to the Jack broadcasts of either weekend game - I watched on In-Synch for the 5 bucks.
I watch in-synch with the volume turned down so at least I get a visual because this guy is so hard to listen to get an accurate description of the play.
It's my opinion, that's just how it is.
I really feel that he needs a colour man to work with him to alleviate the mono-tone he emits - just to make it a little easier to listen to, but its still not the answer.

Exactly, I've seen Office Space. But this is a valid post and several people, and again I say I believe the majority, don't think Fic is The Guy. pardon me for interjecting some humor into a "fic-bashing" thread, jeez o peets. two comments: 1) I don't know why we need 2 threads plus a poll/thread saying that fic stinks. In addition, why do we have to clarify our posts with "i'm sure he's a nice guy but..." this is a message board after all, not the Fic Self-Esteem Lecture Series. 2) Write a letter to the Owner if you hate him that much. You're probably stuck for the rest of the year but if A MAJORITY of people are upset (which so far is 0 out of 4 on this board) the Spirit will most likely address it.

1. its not a poll saying he stinks. its a poll to see what everyone thinks of him. also im not clarifying anything. he is a nice guy. just because i dont care for his radio calls doesnt mean i dont like him as a person, and like you said this is a message board. more directly a message board that deals with all things spirit. he is part of the spirit. as for the letter, it just may happen. but again it isnt because we hate him. as for the 0-4 ratio you came up with, id look at my last thread. seems quite a few people are turned off by his work. donjohnson, your a good guy and i respect your opinions, but dont try and put words in our mouths. noone here is saying we hate him. thats a bit harsh. we just dont care for his calls for the game.
