2020 Trade Deadline Deals

A trade that sort of involves the Spirit: Guelph trades Tanner Wickware to Barrie in exchange for Saginaw's 7th round pick in the 2020 draft.

3 of the 5 teams in our division have not bought or sold anything and Sarnia sold. The only team that has made a move is Flint and even though Piercy scored twice the other night, the defenseman was the real upgrade. There's still 3hrs to go but even though they will get Dellandrea back, I still think the Division is ours for the taking which gives us the #2 seed in the playoffs.

Personally I don't think we should stand pat...I think the addition of 1 skilled forward and 1 good defenseman could get us the conference this year but I'm nervous about the goaltending and maybe that's what DD is thinking too. Can you imagine how good we'd be right now if Prosvetov had come back??? There's also still that slight chance that Wilde gets sent back and that would be a big upgrade but I'm not holding my breath...it's nice to see the experience that Punnet, Smith and Mancini are getting and they're all doing fine back there which is great for the future.

We'll see if anything happens in the next three hours...I feel bad for work today, I'm just going to be hitting refresh on the computer all morning

RUMOR: The Saginaw #Spirit have acquired #LetsGoCanes Prospect Ryan Suzuki, as well as Peter Fleming, Ryan Beck & 5th Round Pick from the Barrie Colts in exchange for Connor Punnett, Ethan Cardwell, 2 2nds, 2 3rds & 5th Round Picks.

Looks like from the interwebs Jeff Marek we're getting Ryan Suzuki for Punnet and Cardwell. I hate to see Cardwell go but we'll have 2 years of Suzuki which is a definite upgrade.

According to OHLInsiders, we're also getting a couple more forwards in the deal including Ryan Beck from Linden who's playing for USA Hockey and is committed to Denver but since he's local, we may be able to snag him. I have no idea if he's any good.

According to HockeyDB on the two others:

Ryan Beck: 17 years old, forward for the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL. Has 4 goals and 10 assists and is a +6 in 23 games this year. From Linden, Michigan.

Peter Fleming: 18 years old, played for Barrie last year (4 goals and 3 assists in 58 games). This year he's in the OHJL with the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots and has 15 goals and 18 assists in 28 games.

Wondering if there are any conditions on the draft picks.

I would think that's very possible but I think once the player doesn't make it straight out of the draft, it seems somewhat rare (at least to me) that they burn a year of their entry level contract the following year because they'd still have to come all the way up to the NHL. Depends on depth at NHL level but good point.

Drinkell says the Spirit are done with trades. Gonna assume that Wilde will be back in Saginaw soon, then.
