I know he's not always reliable, but OHL Insider on Twitter says the OHL will announce the season will start on Dec 1st and play 64 games. There's no mention abut what they'll do if the border isn't open by then.

Seems like December is the target date for most hockey leagues. I'm not convinced the border will even be open by then, and I wouldn't be surprised if some kids don't report to the American teams (concerned parents?). Hopefully things will be getting better by then, but I'm not holding my breath on that.

Unsustainable nonsense!!! I would call it "Wishful Thinking", or "Best Case Scenario". Why so negative?

I was responding to the Jeff Marek tweet.
The idea of starting the season playing Fint Erie...Flint Erie will go over well.
The thought of 50% less capacity when every penny is needed for most teams to be viable...
The LOL on my face when I think of a masked fan with popcorn, beer and Jet's pizza...
The realization that the nucleus of our season ticket fan base are older...
meh!

I just checked last season's schedule and the Spirit had already played 26 games by December 1st. That's going to be a ton of games played in a short period of time to get a 64 game schedule in. I get they are going to make up for it with a shortened playoff, but it's going to be a tough season for everyone involved. It will be interesting to see what kind of plan they come up with for fans in the stands. There is still a lot to be worked out. I'm taking this announcement as a starting point.

Capacity restrictions and revenue lost from not selling concessions can be offset with profit sharing, increased revenues from the new CHL streaming platform, funding from the NHL, and government programs for Covid relief. Let's face it, there are smarter people than us working on this and I'm sure those in charge have multiple plans to make this as smooth as possible. Goslin is the head of the ohl board of governors. Think he signed of on this if it wasnt possible for Saginaw to pull off?

Plus we got a bad break last year not being able to finish the season and we're going to be good again this year... G&G are going to be chasing a title this year no matter what the cost

Sounds like the QMJHL is going forward with their October 1 start date (two months before the OHL and WHL targeted start date). Teams based in Quebec will not allow fans at the start of the season, while the Maritimes could have limited spectators. Looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

This is very, very good news for a December start. Players can take the test before getting on the bus, results are sent to their phones in minutes. They can then show the test results (phone) to the border agents and cross the border. It would have to be approved by government, but this test provides a "healthy certificate" which should be enough. Governments have to be reasonable about this. www.theverge.com/2020/8/26/21403432/fda-authorizes-binaxnow-covid-19-test-abbott-cheap-fast

Trudeau won't open border until US Cases come down (border is currently closed through Oct 21)...from Crains:
"We have committed to keeping Canadians safe and we keep extending the border closures because the States is not in a place where we would feel comfortable reopening those borders," the prime minister said Wednesday morning in an interview with a radio station in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
"We will continue to make sure that Canadian safety is top of mind when we move forward. We see the cases in the United States and elsewhere around the world, and we need to continue to keep these border controls in place," he added.
Would be interesting to see if the OHL teams could be classified as "essential travel" and with testing be allowed to cross back and forth with restrictions on travel once either in US or Canada. I'm sure that's being explored but I'm guessing it's unlikely.
