The WHL just announced they are pushing back the start of their season to Friday, January 8, 2021. Training camps start after Christmas. Additionally, the schedule will be completely divisional based, and it sounds like the five American teams they have will indeed be playing in the U.S. So no border crossings for them to worry about until the playoffs, basically. Whether or not fans can attend will be left up to the local health officials.

QMJHL just announced that the east and west divison games are postponed until the 28th; the maritime teams are still allowed however.

Border is now officially closed until Nov. 21...I'm still hopeful that they will do some sort of exemption for hockey but the Vegas owner may have slipped that the NHL is going to re-align the divisions and have a Canadian-only division since the border will very well remain closed. Here's what I'm hopeful for now:
1) Saginaw, Flint and Erie play against each other until the border is open (even up until the playoffs) 2) If it never opens, the league gets an exemption for one team to come to Canada for the duration of the playoffs (the best team of Erie, Flint, Saginaw comes to and stays in Canada)
If the border does open at some point: 3) The American teams play some divisional games 4) The OHL expands the playoffs to allow all teams to get in. 4a) The bottom 4 teams would play 7-10 and 8-9 in 3-game series
5) Saginaw wins the OHL Championship

According to Darren Dreger on Twitter, "OHL GM's will meet virtually tomorrow (10/28). It's expected the league will announce a Feb 4th season start. Training camps are expected to to open Jan 25th. Eight team playoff also expected to be unveiled." (I don't know how to to copy the original Tweet.)

It now appears to be official
February 4 start Training camps start January 23 1-2 exhibition games in late January European/American players arrive January 8 to begin a 2-week quarantine 40-game regular season (I'm guessing it's all divisional based) 8-team playoff (top 4 from each conference) No discussion for what happens with U.S. based teams

Gotta be some way... There's probably hope that maybe the border will be open by then for economic reasons but who knows

I think it's time to change this thread to just "21 Season", 20 is pretty much off the table.

Announcement coming soon that the OHL season will be "delayed indefinitely"
Considering that Ontario (and other Provinces) haven't even signed off on the NHL playing games in empty arenas yet, it's probably not that surprising.

I wonder if the CHL will waive the rule about NHL signed players going to the AHL this season since they’ll be no junior hockey. Right now it’s either the NHL or CHL for players 19 years old and under except for a few that fall under different rules like Bode Wilde.

This might be a good time to consider age changes for the CHL.

Kinda wondering if the CHL will just end up canceling the Memorial Cup again this year to give the leagues ample time to play a regular season schedule and playoff. The NHL Draft is now scheduled for the third week of July. Maybe have a season that starts in late March or April and ends in late June/early July.
