Why was the crowd so small last night??? Opening night is usually Wednesday night, right? Or am I wrong on that one? We normally sell out opening night. Last night we were hardly half-full. It was disappointing really. Did everyone just get word that the team was going to suck this year and decide not to show up? I think we'll prove that you can't judge a team's future performance in the offseason. Based on the numbers I compiled, the attendance at the home opener this past Wednesday was the lowest (by over 1000) in franchise history so eric8199 does make a good point. We have had nice weather, etc. for other home openers too and the attendance has been much better. Let's see what happens Saturday night when the "Stink" come calling.

Someone mentioned season ticket sales being "way down" this year... they did a report on TV5 last night saying that last year they had about 2500 season tickets & this year they have about 2300 - so it's not "way" down, but it is down.

I'll bet the slight drop has more to do with the economy here these days than the product on the ice.
Around here most fans don't follow the team anywhere close to the level the 15 of us on this site do.
Most just want to see a game, have a good night out and go home - regardless of who is coaching or running the team.

Something interesting happened to me at the BC Post Office yesterday. I was wearing a Tiger T-shirt, and the clerk was commiserating about the Tigers being out of it. He then said, "But hockey's here--I went to the Spirit game last night" We started to go over the game, and a supervisor walked by, listened for a second, and then said,'"But tell me--don't you think they really treated Bob Mancini badly? I am really upset about the way that was handled" At that point, since the line was stacking up, we all had to drop it. My point being--I almost NEVER hear over-the-counter conversation about the Spirit here in Bay City--I always have to bring it up and bore people with my spiel. But the first time that someone else brings it up with me, they're unhappy w/ the Mancini thing. Maybe it doesn't mean anything. It just kinda hit me.............

All kidding aside, I'm so happy to have hockey in Saginaw again, I can't help but spend hours while I'm supposed to be working discussing the team on this message board. lol.

Or maybe it's the fact that they can't really talk about the last 10 games, since the season just started! What else has happened in the past 5 months for people to talk about? Once games start being played & people see what's happening on the ice, they will have more to talk about than Bob Mancini.

Actually, my point was more that nobody EVER knows anything at all about the Spirit. And the first time somebody does, it's that.

I know, I was kidding. There are a wealth of die-hard fans in the arena as well. I can tell that just from sitting in different places in the building.

By the way...
The OHL voted to switch the jersey thing...home teams will wear whites in September, October, November, and December...and then wear dark jerseys at home in January-end of the season.
