I have to agree with McCarty and Puckman on this one.
I know alot of the posters on here seemingly defend Edwards alot when comments are made about him, and thats fine, that is why its a message board forum and you are able to express your own opinion.
You cant fault Don Edwards on the first 2 round draft selections prior to his tenior with the Spirit. To a certain extent you cant even fault him on the Pachis and Szwarz (not that were complaining about Jordan) because I dont exactly remember when he was hired but most times the GM's do the drafting/scouting of the first rounders and I believe Edwards still would of been coaching/managing the team he was with before he was hired.
However, there also has to be some sort of accountability. Lets face it, the free agent players Edwards brought in from Jra didnt really make a difference last season and had a hard time cracking the line up. Thus, you cant keep bringing in players who are mediocre to below average to fill roster spots if you wish to build a contender. It was mentioned during the year that Edwards was away on scouting trips on MLive so therefore you have to hold him accountable for his drafting.
Good teams, with alot of depth, a winning track record or deep pockets take flyers on players in the first couple rounds. The Saginaw Spirit arent in the position to do that and they need immediate help, they cant afford to have those players missing come opening day of the season.

Pachis et al were drafted well before Edwards was hired, and after the team "went in a new direction" by not renewing Mancini's contract. I spent much of last summer discussing the hiring fiasco, and prefer not to repeat it.................The blame (or credit, in Szwarz's case) lies w/ the ownership/management/scouting people who ran that draft, and that also was discussed at length. I haven't brought scouting into this whole thing, but you could make a point that our last impact first round draft pick was McNeill. Corrente was definitely an impact player, but the impact was mostly negative. Tons of talent, but so far talent overshadowed by "character issues". It will be interesting to see the performance of this year's Import Draft, because Mancini was at his best in scouting and drafting European talent. Of course, our scouts may have been recommending other players all along, only to get shot down on draft day, so that area is pure speculation, at least from me. As far as Edwards goes, I've made it a point to say almost nothing all year, as I believe you need at least that long to start judging any GM (or coaching staff ). The year is about up, and the honeymoon is almost over, so I'm almost ready to rock and roll on my initial evaluations............

Bingo!! The Londons, the Kitcheners, and a few others are in a position to gamble occasionally on these picks. The Spirit are not, which makes the possibility of 2 top picks not reporting much more damaging to them than it might be to some other teams.

OK back to predictions and here are mine.
Spirits will have 1 more playoff win this season then the Tigers.
Neither of our top two picks will wear a Spirit jersey this season. Heck go ahead and include top two for both drafts.
Szwarts will get a Gordie Howe hat trick.
Spirit will sign an OA FA from the WHL, whom will not finish the season with us.
Attendance will be the lowest yet, although the announced attendance will set records.
Watson will have had enough at the end of the season and move on.
Spirits will try and get a Memorial Cup bid and the league will laugh at them but will offer to let us host the 2009 Draft in Saginaw.
Spirits will ask the league to let them host a game outdoors.
Last but not least there will be another partner in ownership.

And perhaps mccarty will properly pronounce the teams name spirit not spirits. Although being named after an alcoholic drink isn't a bad idea.

I dont know why you took that post by ac so offensively .. you can take the last sentence of your post and say that to yourself .. Have a nice time reading the forum again and not being allowed to post on it once SGF deletes you ..
Anyways, not to hijack the thread .. back to the predictions!!

Have fun on this board and I hope to see you all at the home opener. Then maybe I can discuse with some of you face to face our ideas about the spirit and what not.

geez I didn't think I could offend someone so easily. The post was just a joke, not a personal attack. I'm sorry to mccarty if you took it that way. But sagspiritfan is right you attacked my posts as well but I just took it as innocent banter.
