Good thing Saginaw won't have to face Plymouth, Guelph, or Sarnia in the 1st round (unless something absolutely crazy happens) because they have not matched up well with any of those teams this season.

Playoff standings heading into Friday's games...
5) Plymouth: 71 points, 6 games left 6) Sarnia: 70 points, 5 games left 7) Saginaw: 69 points, 5 games left (31 wins) 8) Guelph: 69 points, 5 games left (30 wins)
The only teams that are pretty much locked in right now to a slot are Kitchener (1st) and London (4th). Everything else is still a toss-up. The Soo only leads the West Division over Windsor by 1 point, and the Spits have a game in hand. Saginaw and Owen Sound are the only teams in the OHL not playing tonight.
Friday's Key Games: Plymouth at Guelph, Windsor at Sarnia.

After tonight's games here is how things look:
5) Sarnia: 72 points, 4 games left, 35 wins (beat Windsor in OT) 6) Plymouth: 71 points, 5 games left, 33 wins (lost to Guelph in regulation) 7) Guelph: 71 points, 4 games left, 31 wins (beat Plymouth in regulation) 8) Saginaw: 69 points, 5 games left, 31 wins (Idle)
Sarnia and Plymouth are in the drivers seat if they end up tied with anyone due to their win totals. Saginaw or Guelph would have to finish ahead in points to get higher seeds than Sarnia or Plymouth. Saginaw needs to get to that 7th spot because I like their chances against either the Soo or Windsor. A 1st round series against Kitchener will mean an almost certain early playoff exit.

Tonight's game against Owen Sound is a must win game, or we might have a hard time getting out of the 8th spot. I'm worried about tonight's game...I think the Attack are on like a 14 game losing streak, so they're due for a win, and hopefully it's not against us. Our final four games are against very good teams and we need to step it up.

Saginaw gets a much needed 2 points with a 4-3 win at Owen Sound tonight. Meanwhile, Plymouth jumps over Sarnia back into the 5th spot with a 3-2 win at Erie. Here's how things look after tonight's games.
5) Plymouth: 73 points, 4 games left, 34 wins (beat Erie) 6) Sarnia: 72 points, 4 games left, 35 wins (idle) 7) Saginaw: 71 points, 4 games left, 32 wins (beat Owen Sound) 8) Guelph: 71 points, 4 games left, 31 wins (idle)
Sunday's Key Games: London at Guelph Saginaw at Kitchener Soo at Sarnia Plymouth is Idle
Don't forget to turn your clocks ahead 1 hour otherwise you are going to miss the 1st period plus some of the 2nd period of Sunday's game at Kitchener.

Another weekend in the books and the playoff picture is as cloudy as ever. It's going to be one heck of a weekend coming up!
5) Plymouth: 73 points, 4 games left (Idle on Sunday) 6) Guelph: 73 points, 3 games left (Defeated London 3-2 in regulation on Sunday) 7) Sarnia: 72 points, 3 games left, 35 wins (Lost in regulation to the Soo 4-3 on Sunday) 8) Saginaw: 72 points, 3 games left, 32 wins (Lost in overtime to Kitchener 4-3 on Sunday)
Remaining schedules...
Plymouth: Tuesday @ Windsor, Friday @ Sault Ste. Marie, Saturday vs. Sarnia, Sunday @ Saginaw
Guelph: Wednesday vs. Kitchener, Friday vs. Owen Sound, Saturday @ Erie
Sarnia: Thursday vs. Erie, Friday @ Kitchener, Saturday @ Plymouth
Saginaw: Friday vs. Windsor, Saturday @ Sault Ste. Marie, Sunday vs. Plymouth
Guelph has by far the easiest schedule left, while I'd say Plymouth has the toughest. Saginaw and Sarnia both have schedules that kind of balance each other out. Honestly I think every team pretty much controls their own destiny.

Wouldn't it be nice if that last game against Plymouth is for the 5th seed.

I would not be surprised to see Erie beat Guelph on Saturday. It is their home finale and I am sure would like to end the season on a positive note since they won't be in the playoffs this year. Going to be a crazy week of hockey and let's hope our boys put up some points this weekend.
GO SPIRIT!!!

Honestly I think every team pretty much controls their own destiny. Actually, none of the teams control their own destiny. Saginaw cannot move up just by winning. They will need other teams to lose. Saginaw was in control at one time, but lost key games to both Guelph and Sarnia, teams they are trying to catch. The problem now is they no longer have a game against those two teams and will need someone else to knock them off. The only game left in which Saginaw might be in control of upward movement is Sunday vs Plymouth. By then, it might not matter. Plymouth has the most control with a game in hand that gets used up tonight vs Windsor. Saginaw is only one point behind Plymouth but a win tonight by the Whalers and the lead becomes a three point advantage. If that happens, Saginaw will need help to move past them and make Sunday's game mean something. Not trying to bring anybody down here, just givin' ya the facts. Peace.

Let the fun and games begin!! Here is where we stand with Windsor's win over Plymouth last night.
5) Plymouth: 73 points, 3 games left, 34 wins 6) Guelph: 73 points, 3 games left, 32 wins 7) Sarnia: 72 points, 3 games left, 35 wins 8) Saginaw: 72 points, 3 games left, 32 wins
Remaining schedules...
Plymouth: Friday @ Sault Ste. Marie, Saturday vs. Sarnia, Sunday @ Saginaw
Guelph: Wednesday vs. Kitchener, Friday vs. Owen Sound, Saturday @ Erie
Sarnia: Thursday vs. Erie, Friday @ Kitchener, Saturday @ Plymouth
Saginaw: Friday vs. Windsor, Saturday @ Sault Ste. Marie, Sunday vs. Plymouth
Unfortunately for Saginaw, if they end up tied in points with any of the other 3 teams they will be given the lower seed because they lost the season series to all 3 teams.
If Saginaw were to take care of business and win all 3 of their games they would end up with 78 points and 1 of those wins would be against Plymouth. If it's a regulation win, Saginaw would finish ahead of Plymouth because Plymouth could only end up with 77 points by winning their other 2 games. If it's an OT or SO win, Plymouth could win their other 2 games and end up tied with Saginaw at 78 points. Plymouth would get the higher seed because they have won the season series. Sarnia would have to win all 3 of their games to tie Saginaw and get the higher seed. Guelph would need at least 5 points in their last 3 games to tie Saginaw and get the higher seed.
You guys (and gals sf8) are going to have alot of fun. Wish I could be there to come along for the ride.

SSF, they say a lot of the season ticket holders go on Spring Break this time of year...I think you should take a Spring Break to Saginaw for the playoff push

Here's just a look at how crazy these last three games are. Saginaw can win all three and still finish 8th. They can also just win one and finish as high as 6th. Saginaw needs to take care of business and not worry about the other games. That's our job.
Starting tonight, we need Kitchener to beat Guelph.
Thursday night it would be nice if London beats Windsor and Erie beats Sarnia.
Friday, we need the Spirit to beat Windsor. We also would like to see Owen Sound beat Guelph, Kitchener beat Sarnia and have the Soo beat Plymouth.
Saturday, wouldn't it be great if the Spirit beat the Soo, Erie beat Guelph and Plymouth beats Sarnia.
If this were to happen, Saginaw would be playing Plymouth for 5th place in the division on Sunday.
Even though Saginaw is in worst position to move up all of the things that we need to happen are very possible. There are other things at play here. If London beats Windsor and Saginaw beats Windsor then Windsor can no longer catch the Soo. This would help a lot come Saturday as the Soo would be under less pressure to win. Regardless, it's going to be fun watching this thing unfold. Peace.

Kitchener and Guelph tied up 1-1 heading to the 3rd period. The Rangers have a few players, including net minder Steve Mason, not in the lineup tonight.
EDIT: Kitchener and Guelph heading to OT, tied 1-1. The Rangers had a 5 on 3 for 2 minutes with about 7 minutes left but couldn't score. Deja vu right there...
EDIT #2: Guelph wins in a shootout 2-1. What a huge win for them. They are sitting pretty with just Owen Sound and Erie left on the schedule...
