It's bpfox's favorite time of year...buyer and seller season!
Teams are making all sorts of moves even before the World Juniors take place. In the last couple of days, Kitchener has added Francesco Arcuri for 6 picks, Sarnia added Christian Kyrou for 5picks (and a player). It is likely that Flint is going to make some sort of move as well as their roster is pretty old and they're going to lose a lot of scoring after this year.
Obviously the big chip for us is Pavel Mintuykov...he would bring an enormous return in the form of picks and a player and it could really set us up for the future if we move him this year because he won't be back next year. The flip side, of course, is that he's REALLY good and it hurts the team to move him. I can envision a buy/sell with him where we trade him for picks and then use those picks (like we did for Haight) to pick up someone else who can help us for the next couple of years.
The other person who can move would be Lennox and this has been the question ever since last year. This year he's been healthy and has shown that he's a Top 5 goalie for sure and maybe a Top 3. Enough that he would be a difference maker for someone like Windsor who isn't getting great production from their goalies. We could swap OA goalies with them, get a couple picks and then give Oke the majority of the starts the rest of the way to get ready for next year.
Should be an exciting trade deadline (even if we stand pat) and then a very fun second half of the season. Once again, the West is way more loaded than the East and that's another reason to save it up for next year when I think we'll probably be the consensus favorite to win our conference.

Remember that there will be a trade freeze during the world junior tournament.

Looking at possible landing spots for Mintyukov, these seem like reasonable returns we could see:
London: Isaiah George straight up
Barrie: 3 2nds, 3 3rds
Ottawa: 04 D man + 2nd, 2 3rds
Kitchener: Harama+ 2 3rds, off-season we send picks for Brzustewicz

Maybe Elon Musk tossed him for a bad hockey opinion. He was a college age kid when he started the account like what 5/6 years ago? He’s likely got a normal day job now and being an “insider” isn’t something he wants to invest the time into. It was fun little thing for him for a while but you could see him backing away from it slowly when COVID started.

There have been some comments on Twitter by a few folks regarding the possibility of some interesting trades that might begin today. The holiday trade freeze will be lifted at Noon apparently.
Remember though that players at the WJC cannot be traded until after the tourney.
Rumors out there that Shane Wright will be returned to the OHL by Seattle and immediately traded. One person suggested Saginaw is a possible destination. I don't see it unless Seattle is planning on returning him next year too.
Let the fun begin...

I don't see it unless Seattle is planning on returning him next year too. Let the fun begin... Really interesting thought...someone can correct me if I'm wrong but Wright (as a '04) would still be held to the CHL agreement next year and he'd have to make Seattle or be sent back to Juniors. I looked up how he was able to play in the AHL and it was a definite loophole so I'm guessing he's NHL or bust next season too. I'm guessing any trade for Wright is going to have tons of conditional picks attached to it since there's obviously a halfway decent chance he plays OHL next season. I still think it's a stretch for us to be giving picks for half a season of a player since next year certainly seems to be the year we're going for it and I'd rather get a top '05 with picks (that we could trade away in the 24/25 season) and really load up for next year. Very interesting thought though...having someone like Wright on next year's team would certainly make us a favorite to win the conference and could really amplify our bid for the Memorial Cup. Let the fun begin indeed!

Brock Otten is always a great read... Right or wrong he definitely puts some ideas out there and there's a lot of scenarios on Pavel including staying with the team.

Nice read, thank you for sharing. A lot of eyes will be on Saginaw this deadline. I'm still thinking Minty gets dealt and Lennox stays, but knowing me I'll probably be wrong.
In addition to Saginaw, I'm curious as to what direction Flint is going to go in. This seems like their "go for it" year, but haven't quite lived up to expectations. Will they make a big splash or sell the farm? I kinda wondered if they might be in on Wright if he gets returned to Kingston.

I think Flint's all in season went out the window when Othmann demanded to be moved. Two deals made in the last couple days: Erie acquired Pano Fimis from Niagara for 5 draft picks (3 2nd round picks, 2 3rd round picks). Fimis is a former 2nd overall pick in the OHL Priority Selection. London acquired Ryan Humphrey and Ryan Winterton from Hamilton for Luca Testa, Carson Lloyd, and a 2nd round pick. Testa was London's 1st round pick in the 2022 Priority Selection.
