From the Peterborough perspective it sounds like Guo is a solid young player but was getting buried on the depth chart behind older players. Looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the table in Saginaw. Already putting one of the Mintyukov picks to use with the '25 3rd rounder.

Windsor better win the title this year after all the PDA they have on their social media today over Wright. lol. Never seen a club so excited about a rental before. I get it, he's good. Enjoy your few months with him. Hope it works out for you.

Thanks for sharing the link. They brought up a lot of good points on a number of teams/topics. I thought I'd do some thoughts on the deadline.
Winners
1. Ottawa: Adding two of the three leading point getters in the league in Logan Morrison and Pavel Mintyukov without giving up a roster player or part of their young core is wizardly on their part. When I first heard Mintyukov was going to Ottawa, I was almost certain Frankie Marrelli was coming to Saginaw (I'm assuming local boy Henry Mews is untouchable). Maybe Saginaw just wanted the picks? Maybe there's a Part 2 to the trade in the summer? Who knows. It seems like it doesn't happen often, but the East is really competitive this year and it should be an exciting playoff on that side of the bracket.
2. Mississauga: Love the moves they made and the assets that are coming back, including getting the 6th overall pick in last year's draft, Jack Van Volsen. Owen Beck is a guy I would have loved to see Saginaw go after (I personally feel he will be back in the OHL next year). It might be a rough couple of months coming up in Missy, but they'll be better off for it soon enough.
3. Saginaw: Well, the Spirit did what they needed to do honestly. Nine picks for an import is an impressive haul and I have no doubt DD will put them to good use. Really my only concern with the deal (which the podcast kind of alludes to) is how the current players will react after they've played so well up to this point in the season. When the Memorial Cup bidders were first announced, I felt the Soo were the favorites, but now I really think it could be coming here.
Losers
1. Flint: I hate to dog on our rivals during a year that has been a bust for them, but I genuinely have no idea what their management is doing down there. I think at this part of the cycle they're currently at, you're either all in or you're completely out, and the Firebirds pretty much stood pat, save for spending six draft picks on a winger who has six goals this year. Sure, they still have talent and could turn it around at any moment, but they'll be losing Riley Piercey, Tyler Deline, Amadeus Lombardi, Braeden Kressler and probably Dmitry Kuzmin after this season. Terry Doyle had a good tweet that mentioned after all of their trades, Flint traded Brennan Othmann and three 4th round picks for Nolan Dann and Artem Guryev. That is...not good.
2. Barrie: This might be a bit of a strange one to put in here, but I felt the Colts just didn't do enough at the deadline. They do get Brandt Clarke back, which is obviously huge, but they have a draft cupboard full of picks (including four 2nds in 2024) and they will lose a lot of their scoring after this year. Braden Hache and Tyler Savard are solid pickups for a run, but I don't think the Colts are better than any of Ottawa/Peterborough/North Bay. Shane Wright would have fit in really well here, or dare I say, I might have entertained the thought of trading Clarke.
3. Niagara: This isn't really because of who they gave up or what they got back, but 27 trades in one year is ridiculous and I have to wonder if parents/guardians are having concerns about sending their kids there.
Other thoughts
London: I think they could be both a winner and a loser here. Ryan Winterton is a good add who brings the experience of a long playoff run, but they lost out on Wright/Morrison. However, when you've won like 22 out of 24 or whatever they're at now...maybe the best trades are the ones you don't make?
Windsor: Talk about going all in. Other than the first round, the Spits do not have a draft pick in the 2023 draft until the 6th round (!) and no 2nd or 3rd round picks until 2027.
2023-24 West Division: Windsor's all in for this year. Sarnia's all in for this year. Flint is probably going to be bad next year. The Soo, in theory, should be better. Have to think Saginaw will be a heavy favorite in the division even before any trades.

Love the analysis AJ. I don't disagree with any of it.
I personally think Windsor went too deep in the cupboard to get what they have. Will it be enough to put them over London? We'll see. They were already playing well, will adding someone like Wright help that or hurt it? Did they really need someone like him to compete, and might he tilt the scales in the wrong direction? Only time will tell. I'm glad Saginaw didn't make a move for him, personally. I think to give up that much for a guy who's only here for a couple of months is crazy. But in the end if they're lifting a trophy because of it, I guess it will have been the right choice.
As for the Memorial Cup, I don't know how much people can possibly know about the selection in advance, but things I'm hearing really seem like it's leaning toward Saginaw. Nothing from the team or anything, but the way people are talking about it. Kitchener's radio guy did an arena tour of the Dow that he put on his YouTube channel talking about it and noted some of the reasons Saginaw might be a favorite over the Soo, which I thought was pretty interesting. I'm also not aware of the proposal itself and what Saginaw may add if they get the Cup to put the icing on the cake, so some of the roadblocks we theoretically have could go away too. I feel pretty confident that with Misa here, the team that we're building and the amenities we do have in Saginaw that we've got a really good shot to be hosting next year.

Some great posts! I ventured into the facebook "fan nation" after the Mintyukov trade and not only are people bananas on there, it's presented in such a horrible format because it's a zillion facebook posts for each individual thought and you're at the mercy of the algorithm on which comments you see. What I'm trying to say is thank goodness this board still exists and while there's not nearly as much participation as there used to be, I'm thankful that we've still got good people back here with smart thoughts (most of the time).
aj's point about the West Division is an important one since that is the overwhelmingly majority of our games. Windsor, Sarnia, and Flint are all losing tons of talent at the end of the season and while the Soo will be better, they are still not going to be very good.
If you look at our current roster, we are still VERY young and we only lose our OA's after this year. Lennox is very good but Oke has made World Jr's twice and I think he's ready to step into the #1 spot. Theo Hill is a nice OA but he's certainly not tearing it up and the tough one to replace will be Smith. We'll need to get another defenseman (maybe Jovanovic will finally show up) and then I think we can grab a couple of scorers but other than that, we're in a really great place heading into next year. Even if we don't host the Memorial Cup, I think we'll have a really good chance to get there on our own.

+1 on the Facebook group. It’s like talking to bricks on there sometimes.
I think the Spirit werent necessarily married to trading Pavel, but 9 draft picks, all 2-3-4s? No GM in his right mind should turn that offer down. I also think we could see #10 in the rafters at the Dow some day.

Mintyukov, Perfetti... Two players who should be hanging from the rafters and we didn't even get our full time with them. I look at what Hronek is doing in the pros and Mintyukov is going to do that and so much more.

His opinion is basically that going all in this season would have been a sure thing but building for the next few seasons is full of uncertainty.

And who’s to say there won’t be a player coming back from Ottawa once the off season begins. It’s happened in the past with these big trade deadline deals that only involve draft picks.

Eric—I think the only real drawbacks to Saginaw’s bid are hotel space and walkability. I’m sure the Spirit would set up transportation between the Dow and hotels in the Township, but to get anywhere else is dicey, and there isnt a lot to see in downtown Saginaw. And—the elephant in the room—Saginaw doesnt have the greatest rep crime-wise—how many people are going to be affected by that? (This is NOT a knock on Saginaw. I live in Bay City, but I’ve spent plenty of time in Saginaw over the years with never a problem. But for some, perception is reality.)
Don—Jovanovich has turned out to be a real goose egg. I assume there’s a reason he is STILL occupying a roster spot. But at this point he’s been off the ice for almost two full seasons, and the club’s silence on him is deafening. I have no idea what happened with him, and chances are it’s out of his control. (ie, an injury or the like). I’ve heard he’s coming multiple times, and each time J Day has come and gone with nothing. But the chances of him showing up and being what we thought he’d be are approaching negative infinity. I devoutly hope I have to eat those words.
MSF—HAHAHA😂😂😂!! I truly thought a couple of my replies to him would get deleted because they werent upbeat and cheerful enough. Pretty sure if I lined them up in chronological order it would be obvious that I went from accomadating to totally out of patience. I completely accept that people have different viewpoints, and I even grant that part of what he says is a legitimate question. The Spirit have performed above expectations this year, and tomorrow is granted to no one, as the Spirit brass know all too well. But…..
Nice to chat about this with people who actually understand what the OHL is all about. Here’s hoping for a W or 2 this weekend!

As I understand it, Frankenmuth is where the off-ice activities will be, including housing the players, families, league personnel, and officials. They have adequate hotel space and restaurants. That should meet the walkability requirement. This would include the Spirit players who won't be staying with their billets. I would imagine this includes shuttle busses to and from The Dow.

I don’t know you, so I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that you’re not as much of a bigot as that comment would indicate.
