EDIT: trade is now official.
Owen Sound receives: -Sam McCue -Konnor Smith
Peterborough receives: -Nico Addy -Martin Matejicek -3rd round draft pick (2026)
I believe Marek also reported a couple days ago the Soo is the front-runner for Owen Beck. We'll see how that plays out, but if Smith is going for an '07, then Beck's price is going to be awfully steep for any team.

There have been indications coming out of Owen Sound that Colby Barlow would not be moved at the deadline. I think this confirms it.

Well here we go. Jeff Marek reporting that Owen Beck could be heading to Saginaw. Deal still being worked out.

Before we see what we're giving up (I imagine Young is involved), I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this (proposed) acquisition. From all accounts, Beck is a true two-way center and has Memorial Cup experience both of which will be really valuable for our team.

This deal just might empty cupboard of the draft picks that have been banked over the last couple of years.

I wouldn't doubt it but I'm OK with that...this is our chance to hang banners this year and we have to do whatever is necessary. I've said we're two players away and Beck would be player #1 and a big defenseman would be player #2. I still think it ends up being an OA swap for Loukus but we'll see what happens. If we can make it work to keep Loukus, that makes us even deeper. Assuming we get Beck here's what you're looking at with lines: Misa-Beck-Haight Willis-Sapovaliv-Christopolus Loukus-Hay-Mangone Moore-Gervais-Sima That's a really strong line combination. And if we can add a defenseman Parekh-New Guy Dionocio- Hache Guo - Forgione/Bishop (Assuming Glavin is in that trade)

Inject all of this straight into my veins. Every deal in the past 2 years has led up to this week.
Empty the cupboard for Beck and most likely one more D.
It will be bare, but we will get it back in the next year or two when it comes time to part ways no doubt with Misa/Parkeh/others (although I'd love to see Misa retire a Spirit) to a contender at that point in time.
That is the cycle of life in this league.

Also per Jeff Marek...former captain Josh Bloom possibly coming back to Saginaw. North Bay owns his rights. Currently playing with Kalamazoo in the ECHL.
EDIT: sounds like North Bay released his rights. Could be a free addition. He's had a rough first year of pro.

Quite honestly in my opinion he was a disappointment the early part of the 22-23 season before he was traded to North Bay.

Bloom would bring a lot of strength and toughness to a team that doesn't have enough of it. The one thing I don't like is that bloom never seemed to back check and only played one end of the ice. His penalty kill (and SH goal) prowess would also be a great addition.

With the potential additions of Beck and Bloom I still think we're missing a defensemen... We need that big body with a blast from the blue line and then it will be move out of our way as we race to the playoffs

I was really hoping for a return to Saginaw for Punnett or a return to the area for Midland native Roman Schmidt (he's already been traded) but if we're getting Bloom, that will fill up our OA's. I think it's possible we just roll with the Dmen that we have but I personally think we're one short.
